Dr. Michael Spicola, OD

I knew this was going to be a waste of time, but was trying to follow procedures so I my neurologist won’t stop seeing me. I was hoping he and his staff could assist me with this chronic eye dryness and pain I’ve had for 20 months now, but he was worse than a regular eye doctor. I was told that he was a specialist and could detect what was going on with me. My neurologist (who he told me I shouldn’t see anymore & to find a new one) diagnosed me in November with IIH and referred me to do a spinal tap and I did and the outcome wasn’t great and still have chronic pressure, pulsating, loss of balance in my head and eyes to the point I mainly just lay down now at home, don’t work or drive anymore. Spicola & his rude staff talked over me, dismissed everything I told him I was experiencing.. I wasted over an hour with no outcome with this doctor and his staff. He threw some eye drops at me after telling him and the 3 other nurses that eye drops burn my eyes. This isn’t even all I have to say.

No wait time, seen promptly Dr. Spicola and staff very tentative to details, explained the results of my exam in simple terms so that I could understand. He gave me my options. My experience with Dr. Spicola was very satisfactory, would not hesitate to recommend him.

Dr Spicola is AMAZING!!! He was the physician on call today and it was our first encounter with him. His bedside manner was phenomenal! He took time to explain the diagnosis and treatments. I never expected such a thorough exam from an on call doctor on the holiday! He made it feel like a personal relationship vs. the normal business atmosphere created. Professional and a personality!

Dr Spicola, OD has been treating me since 2006. After moving from N.Y I needed to continue seeing an OD. Recommended by my Carolinas Health Care physician. I have been seeing him ever since and have no regrets. Along with his staff, I remain confident in the care I have been receiving.

Dr. Spicola is a wonderful doctor who helps me with a whole host of eye problems that I have including cataracts, iritis, chronic dry eye and vision issues. Highly recommend. He has referred me to a optic neurologist and an optic immunologist as needed for more extensive treatments.

After going to the office with swollen eyes, bloodshot, aching eyes amongst other things. He said I have a virus. No blood test, no other testing at all, just a look, sent me home. Two days later I was diagnosed with Grave's disease by an Endocronoligist in 15 minutes after testing. I then looked up the definition of an Opthtamologist (a doctor that deals with the Anatomy, Physiology and diseases of the eye's). It should have been obvious to Dr. Spicola. yes, I did still get a bill!
