Nina Freitas

I saw Nina Freitas for physical therapy for 5 sessions. I was seeing Nina for a partially-torn rotator cuff. I injured my rotator cuff tendon by doing shoulder extension stretches. I told Nina three times that shoulder extension stretches hurt me, and she pressured me into doing a shoulder extension stretch anyways. I tore more of my rotator cuff. On our 5th and last session, I confronted Nina in a non-accusatory way. I told Nina at the beginning of our session, “Nina, I got injured doing the shoulder extension stretch in our last session.” She said, “Then, don’t do it.” I was shocked. She did not apologize. She did not seem to care. An hour later, at the end of our appointment, Nina asked me, 'How much did you improve?' I was shocked. I did not know how to respond. I have never had a medical professional make me feel so uncomfortable. A sports medicine doctor told me that my rotator cuff will never heal. Working with Nina was the worst experience of my life.

I've worked with Nina for about a year for a recurrent injury. She is super knowledgeable about the body and listens to me when I share my experiences. What I appreciate the most is that she was really supportive of my mental health as I dealt with being less mobile and helped me through a rough recovery.
