I received treatment from Pam for almost 2 years. At her suggestion, I quit my job and lost all of my savings receiving treatment from her despite my continued insistence that it was causing me financial distress. Eventually she suggested I see an additional therapist, then suddenly informed me that she could no longer see me. This is the email she sent. "It appears you have mommy issues with erotica and a psychoanalyst has the clinical training to address this. I don’t. It seems you are using me to avoid the emotional work the psychoanalyst is pursuing with you during the sessions. [...] I am cancelling all sessions." For context, she had NEVER mentioned “erotic mommy issues” or “avoiding emotional work” in a session before (nor has any other therapist of mine). This email was entirely unexpected. To this day it baffles me. Pam, if you're reading this, I want you to know that I'm more miserable now more than ever and you are at least partially responsible. Shame on you.
