Stacy Shelts, LPC

I left our first meet feeling much worse, so my personal rating is 1 star. However, I do not want to tank Stacy's reviews because she could be a great fit for a different type of person, hence the 4 star review. I want to share what I experienced with her to caution anyone similar to me. I'm autistic with a high need for autonomy and a history of feeling misunderstood. Stacy started using psychoanalysis terms (like defensive, black & white thinking), and I asked if we could not use those terms. She said she was unwilling to change her approach and continued. I then said stop using those terms, or it isn't the right fit. She violated my boundary and said 'that was a demand' with more psychoanalysis. I found it invalidating. I felt misunderstood. Basically, I can sum it up with this rough quote from her: it's not my duty to make you comfortable, I'm here to challenge you and help you get better. That does not resonate with me. If it resonates with you, you might love working with her.
