We were doing family and individual counseling with Tracy. Prior to hiring her, I told her something about a previous diagnosis of my adult child. I asked her to keep it confidential. I told her that revealing it would be very damaging to our daughter and to the relationship we were trying to mend. After a month or two of our daughter meeting with her separately, Tracy staged a big reveal so that our daughter could confront us with precisely what I'd asked Tracy to keep confidential. How she could possibly have thought after meeting with us all briefly, that this was healthy or that her conclusions were accurate, I'll never know. Our daughter was deeply hurt and cut off all contact. I don't blame her. I do blame Tracy. It was nothing short of incompetent. I sent her a long email detailing how disappointed I was. She never responded. I wouldn't call that a successful or insightful counseling.
