Biography: Andrew F. Alexis, MD, MPH is a Professor of Clinical Dermatology and Vice-Chair for Diversity and Inclusion at Weill Cornell Medicine. He is the former Chair of the Department of Dermatology at Mount Sinai Morningside and Mount Sinai West in New York City. Having served as Director of the first-of-its-kind Skin of Color Center for over 15 years, his work has helped to advance patient care, research, and education pertaining to dermatologic disorders that are prevalent in populations with skin of color. He has also contributed to the development of targeted threapies for inflammatory dermatologic disorders and the use of lasers for the treatment of Fitzpatrick skin phototypes IV-VI.Dr. Alexis received his medical degree from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons and his Master of Public Health at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. He completed his dermatology residency at Weill Cornell Medicine, followed by a fellowship in dermatopharmacology at NYU Langone's Ronald O. Perelman Department of Dermatology.Dr. Alexis has published more than 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals including the British Journal of Dermatology, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, and JAMA Dermatology among others. He has co-edited three textbooks and authored over 10 book chapters. Dr. Alexis is a frequent lecturer at national and international conferences and has been invited as a Visiting Professor or Grand Rounds speaker at many prestigious academic institutions.Dr. Alexis has held numerous leadership positions in professional organizations including Past President of the New York Dermatological Society, Past President of the New York Academy of Medicine Dermatology Section, Past President of the Skin of Color Society, and former Board of Director of the American Dermatological Society. Biography: Maria Garzon, M.D. is Professor of Dermatology and Pediatrics at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons (VP&S) and the Director of the Division of Pediatric Dermatology at NYP Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital. With a significant body of published research, leadership and teaching experience, Dr. Garzon is an internationally recognized leader in pediatric dermatology. She is a leading expert on the care of children and adolescents with vascular anomalies, particularly hemangiomas and vascular malformations. Dr. Garzon is the Founder and Co-Director of the NYP/Columbia University Irving Medical Center (NYP/CUIMC) Interdisciplinary Vascular Anomalies Group, a founding member and past President of the Hemangioma Investigator Group (HIG) and a founding member of the Pediatric Dermatology Research Alliance (PeDRA). She is a past President of both the Society for Pediatric Dermatology and the New York Dermatological Society. She was elected to the Academy of Clinical Excellence (ACE) at VP&S and named a Samberg Scholar at NYP Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital. Dr. Garzon has authored numerous articles and book chapters and has lectured at many national and international meetings including the American Academy of Dermatology, American Academy of Pediatrics, Pediatric Academic Societies, World Congress of Pediatric Dermatology, National Institute of Health and International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies.
