Biography: Ikjae Lee, MD is an Assistant Professor of Neurology in the Division of Neuromuscular Medicine. Dr. Lee received his MD from Seoul National University College of Medicine in South Korea. After moving to United States, he completed residency in Neurology and fellowship in Neuromuscular Medicine at the University of Cincinnati. During his training, he received Outstanding Junior Investigators by American Stroke Association in 2013 and Resident & Fellow member recognition award by American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine in 2016. Dr. Lee joined University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2016 as an Assistant Professor in Neurology Department where he served as a Co-Director of ALS Multidisciplinary Clinic focusing on high quality care of ALS and other neuromuscular disease patients. His expertise in clinical neuromuscular medicine fueled his passion in education and research leading to achievement of 2017 Best Abstract Award by American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine and 2018 Faculty Teacher of the Year Award selected by University of Alabama at Birmingham Neurology Residents. Finally, Dr. Lee joined Columbia University Department of Neurology, Division of Neuromuscular Medicine, Eleanor and Lou Gehrig ALS Center in 2020 where he will continue his efforts as a clinician-researcher. Dr. Lee is board certified in Neurology, Neuromuscular medicine and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.

Biography: Dr. Robert J. Strauch is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of hand, wrist, and elbow problems in adults and children. He has a special interest in nerve problems of the upper extremity, including carpal tunnel syndrome, and in treating congenital hand disorders. The specialty of hand surgery melds together elements and principles of orthopedic, plastic, neurological and vascular surgery to restore and maximize hand and upper extremity function, whether wielding a jackhammer, throwing a baseball, or playing the violin. Dr. Strauch has authored and co-authored numerous articles in the field of hand surgery and is actively engaged in basic and clinical research. He served as President of the New York Society for Surgery of the Hand in 2006-2007. Dr. Strauch has been included in the list of New York Magazine's and "Best Doctors in New York" in addition to being regularly listed in America's Top Doctors. He is also an accomplished amateur magician and has been known to entertain as well as to diagnose and treat his patients. Children, especially, actually look forward to a return office visit with the "magician".

Biography: Dr. McKhann graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude from Duke University, with Research Honors for his investigations into brain tumor immunobiology. He attended Yale School of Medicine where he was AOA, Cum Laude, a Farr Scholar, and one of five recipients of the medical school's highest thesis award. Dr. McKhann trained in Neurological Surgery at the University of Washington, as well as Atkinson Morley's Hospital in Wimbledon, England. Dr. McKhann combines clinical skill and compassionate care to maximize patient outcomes. He treats patients with a variety of brain conditions including Brain Tumors, Epilepsy, Movement Disorders, Adult Hydrocephalus, Chiari Malformations, Cavernous Malformations, Trigeminal Neuralgia, and Neurotrauma. His areas of particular technical expertise include microneurosurgery, computer guided stereotactic neuronavigation, intraoperative awake brain mapping, neuroendoscopy, minimally invasive brain surgery, gamma knife radiosurgery, deep brain stimulation, and cerebrospinal fluid shunting.

Biography: Dr. Connolly serves as the Byron Stookey Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurological Surgery at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University and the Surgeon-in-Chief of the New York Neurological Institute and the New York Presbyterian Hospital - Columbia Irving Medical Center. He is also the Surgical Director of the Neuro-Intensive Care Unit, caring for patients suffering from the acute effects of both hemorrhagic as well as ischemic stroke. Working as part of an extremely experienced and world-renowned team of critical care and stroke neurologists, as well as interventional radiologists, endovascular neurosurgeons, neuroanesthesiologists, and specialized nurse practitioners, he provides highly personalized, state of the art care for patients with brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, spontaneous hemorrhages, as well as for those patients with carotid stenosis, moyamoya disease, and cerebral ischemia due to atherosclerosis and other vasculopathies. Biography: David P. Trofa, MD, is an orthopedic sports medicine surgeon specializing in the operative and non-operative treatment of athletes of all ages and skill levels, including pediatric and adult patients. He is an expert in arthroscopic and open surgery of the knee, shoulder, and elbow. Dr. Trofa has a particlar intrest in advanced knee disorders and complex knee pathologies, focusing on cartilage restoration, non-surgical management of early arthritis, meniscus injuries, ligament reconstruction, knee dislocations, and patellofemoral disorders. His shoulder practice focuses on labral tears, SLAP tears, rotator cuff tears, and frozen shoulder; while his elbow expertise includes treatment for medial/lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow), instability, and ligament reconstruction. Dr. Tofa also leverages the latest orthobiologic treatments in his practice, including platelet rich plasma (PRP), to provide athletes with a full spectrum of treatment options. A native of Wilton, Connecticut, Dr. Trofa is a former athlete who competed at the national level in soccer and wrestling. After receiving a B.A. in Biology from Columbia University he graduated from Tufts University School of Medicine with Research Honors. He completed his residency training in orthopedic surgery at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, where he was twice awarded the Ira Wolfe Award for Excellence in Sports Medicine Research. Following residency, Dr. Trofa completed a fellowship in sports medicine, shoulder, and elbow at OrthoCarolina in Charlotte, NC. While there, he served as a team physician for multiple professional and collegiate teams such as the Carolina Panthers and the Charlotte Knights. Throughout his training Dr. Trofa has been active in academic research having published over 50 peer-reviewed articles on a variety of topics related to ACL reconstruction, Tommy John surgery (UCL reconstruction), osteochondral transplantation, Achilles tendon repairs, surgical techniques and post-operative physical therapy protocols. Dr. Trofa's ongoing research projects are focused on optimizing patient outcomes with a particular interest in complex knee pathology, including articular cartilage, ligamentous, and meniscal injuries. Hs is an active member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), and the International Society of Arthroscopy Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS).

Biography: Dr. Michael G. Vitale specializes in the non-operative and operative treatment of complex pediatric scoliosis and other spinal disorders, and performs approximately 200 scoliosis procedures every year, half of which are in children less than 8 years of age. Dr. Vitale has a special interest in innovative treatments for younger children with scoliosis, including the use of a magnetic spine lengthening device ("MAGEC") which eliminates the need to perform repeat spinal surgeries every 6-9 months on growing children, non-fusion procedures such as vertebral stapling and vertebral tethers, "growing rods," and the "Shilla" procedure. As part of his commitment to innovation in Scoliosis treatment, Dr. Vitale helps to lead the Children's Spine Study Group, which conducts extensive multicenter international research focused on improving the care of young people with scoliosis. Dr. Vitale also leads the Conservative Treatment of Scoliosis Center, with Co-Director Hagit Berdishevsky. One of the only programs of its kind, the Center focuses on avoiding surgery with attention to scoliosis specific Schroth physical therapy and state-of-the art expert brace options including the Rigo System Cheneau brace. For the youngest children with scoliosis, Dr. Vitale runs an active Mehta casting program and has successfully used this method to reverse spinal curvature in numerous patients. For those who need surgery, Dr. Vitale, also the Chief Quality Officer for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, has a focus on making sure every procedure is done in the safest possible way. In fact, Dr. Vitale has written extensively on best practices in the care of patients with scoliosis. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Vitale serves as director of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Research Group and leads the clinical research team in their efforts, which are often funded by multi-year grants, published in leading medical journals, and presented at national and international conferences. Under Dr. Vitale's leadership, the group has published over 150 peer reviewed publications in the field. In recognition of his clinical and academic leadership, Dr. Vitale has received numerous national awards from the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America including the Arthur H. Huene Memeorial Award, the Angela M Kuo Award Young Investigator Award, the Robert Hensinger Scientific Paper Award, as well as the Hansjorg Wyss Research Award, the Frank Stinchfield Research Award, the Rosamond Kane Award in Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery, and the Harrison Mclaughin Award. Dr. Vitale also serves numerous roles in the national governance of the field currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, chairing the International Pediatric Orthopaedic Society, leading the efforts of the Scoliosis Research Society on Advocacy for Unmet Needs of Children for Pediatric Medical Devices, serving on the Executive Committee of the Children's Spine Study Group, and is a Member of the prestigious International Pediatric Orthopaedic Think Tank. Dr. Vitale is the recipient of the Castle Connolly Top Doctors award for 5 consecutive years and has been named Top 50 Physicians in the US in the area of Scoliosis Care by Becker's Spine Review. An avid skier, marathon runner and recreational triathlete, Dr. Vitale's biggest pleasure is spending his free time with his wife and four Sons.
