Biography: Brian J.A. Gill, MD is a neurosurgeon and scientist in the Department of Neurosurgery at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) who specializes in complex brain tumors. Dr. Gill obtained his undergraduate degree at Case Western Reserve University and his medical degree at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Gill completed his neurosurgical training at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, where he served as chief resident for the department. He then obtained specialty training in neurosurgical oncology from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center before returning to practice at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Dr. Gill is passionate about providing safe and effective care for patients with primary and metastatic brain tumors. To that end, he combines novel methods, minimally invasive techniques, and, when appropriate - non-surgical options to provide the best possible care for brain tumor patients. These include fluorescence-guided surgery, stereotactic navigation, brachytherapy, neuroendoscopy, awake/asleep brain mapping techniques, stereotactic radiosurgery, and laser interstitial thermal therapy.

Biography: Dr. Mendiratta completed his undergraduate studies at Duke University and went on to receive his MD from Wake Forest University, Bowman Gray School of Medicine. He interned in the Department of Medicine at the Cornell University Medical Center, completed his residency in neurology at the Neurological Institute, Columbia University Medical Center and his fellowship in epilepsy at the Columbia Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. In 1999, Dr. Mendiratta received the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Award for Humanism and Excellence in Teaching as an Outstanding Role Model.

Biography: Kimberly Kwei is a board-certified neurologist and has sub-specialty training in the field of movement disorders. She finished a fellowship in movement disorders at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, during which time she was the Edmond J. Safra Fellow in Movement Disorders. Before that, she completed a residency in neurology at the Mount Sinai Hospital, where she also earned her MD and PhD in neuroscience degrees as a graduate of their NIH-funded medical scientist training program. She pursued undergraduate studies at Amherst College, where she majored in chemistry and neuroscience.

Biography: Dr. Jose Gutierrez is anAssociate Professor of Neurology at Columbia University Medical Center in the city of New York. Dr. Gutierrez obtained his Medical degree from University of Guadalajara in Mexico. He completed his Neurology training at University of Miami. During his residency, he obtained a Master in Public Health with major in Biostatistics from Florida International University. He then joined the Department of Neurology at Columbia University Medical Center where he completed a two-year fellowship in Vascular Neurology. Dr Gutierrez is a clinical scientist participating in inpatient and outpatient clinical and educational activities. Dr Gutierrez's main research interest is brain arterial remodeling in the context of atherosclerosis and aging, and how these changes may alter the risk of stroke and dementia in certain populations. Dr. Gutierrez's role as Principal Investigator has been supported by grants from the American Heart Association, the Campbell foundation, and the National Institute of Health. Dr. Gutierrez has published 60 peer-reviewed articles (35 first-authored), 12 book chapters, 30 poster and oral presentations at national and international meetings. Ultimately, Dr. Gutierrez research goal is to find novel disease pathways that may be amenable to modifications and with this, to palliate the societal burden of cerebrovascular disease.
