Biography: Michelle Bell MD is an associate professor of neurology at the CUMC, in the Division of Epilepsy. Dr. Bell obtained her undergraduate degree from Harvard University followed by a medical doctorate at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. During medical school, she was valedictorian of her graduating class and was also inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Dr. Bell then pursued her medicine internship and neurology residency at Columbia University. During residency, she was awarded the Daniel Sciarra Award for her commitment to patient care and humanism as well as the Department of Medicine House Office Award for her dedication to the Internal Medicine residents and their patients.After residency, Dr. Bell served for one year as chief resident, then completed a two-year fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology/Epilepsy.Dr. Bell was the recipient of the Lewis P. Rowland Resident Teaching Award in 2017, the Richard Mayeux Award in 2021, the Stephen Shafer Humanism in Neurology Award in 2023.She is a professional advisory board member for the national Epilepsy Foundation and the Epilepsy Foundation of Metropolitan New York.She is also currently the Program Director for the Adult Neurology Residency Program.

Biography: Matthew Schelke, MD, is a general neurologist who evaluates and treats patients with a broad spectrum of neurological conditions. He is a graduate of Columbia University and Weill Cornell Medical College. He completed his residency training at the Neurological Institute of New York/Columbia University Irving Medical Center including a year as Chief Resident in Neurology.

Biography: Imama A. Naqvi, MD, MS is an assistant professor of neurology at CUMC, in the Division of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Disease. Dr. Naqvi obtained her medical degree with honors from Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan. She completed Neurology residency at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, followed by a fellowship in Vascular Neurology at the National Institutes of Health. She subsequently joined the faculty at Temple University, where she continued as an investigator in NIH-funded clinical trials, served as associate residency director, and directed the FASST stroke prevention clinic. Dr. Naqvi's interests include post-acute stroke care and health care delivery models. Her research interests focus on transitions of care and secondary stroke prevention.

Care Philosophy: Dr. Ilya Iofin is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital. His subspecialty is Orthopaedic Oncology. Dr. Iofin received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine. He completed residency in orthopaedic surgery at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases. His fellowship training in orthopaedic oncology was done at the Washington Hospital Center/Georgetown University. Dr. Iofin specializes in the treatment of benign and malignant tumors of bone and soft tissue in patients of all ages. The treatment ranges from minimally invasive procedures to extensive limb sparing surgeries. The care of each patient involves a multidisciplinary team approach. Dr. Iofin works closely with musculoskeletal radiologists, pathologists, medical and radiation oncologists to provide the best medical care.

Biography: Karan Dua, MD is an Orthopedic surgeon specializing in the treatment of structures affecting the form and function of the entire arm. Karan is a Brooklyn native, and a proud member of the New York community. After earning his Doctorate of Medicine (MD) from Stony Brook University School of Medicine, he completed an Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. He has dedicated his career to studying and training in the surgical management of the Upper Extremity. He first completed a Hand, Upper Extremity, and Microvascular Surgery Fellowship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL. Upon completion, he trained at Harvard Medical School for his Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA. Karan is on the forefront of researching and designing innovative, novel surgical techniques for reconstructing the arm. He has an avid interest in open and arthroscopic tendon transfers of the shoulder, complex reconstructions after failed surgery, arthroscopic and minimally invasive techniques for nerve decompression including the brachial plexus and around the shoulder blade, and tendon transfers for scapular winging. Karan is a passionate researcher and writer. He has been awarded multiple research grants studying wrist and elbow reconstruction techniques, nerve gliding in the upper extremity, and continues to pursue these efforts at Columbia University. He has published over 30 peer reviewed journal articles, authored several book chapters in leading Orthopedic surgery textbooks, and presented his research at national and international conferences. Dr. Dua is a participating member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH), and the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES). Karan strives to help his patients achieve their functional goals and works rigorously to improve their experience. He strongly believes in incorporating new technologies to accomplish this, and works in a collaborative manner with his colleagues to create unique treatment plans that are specifically tailored to each patient. He continues to foster an inclusive care environment while developing meaningful relationships with the members of this community.
