With a strong interest in athletics as well as human biomechanics and physiology, Dr. Trucksess graduated cum laude with a major in kinesiology. She went on to earn her medical degree from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond where she was named to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Following medical school, she completed a four year residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (known as physiatry) is a sub-specialty of medicine that focuses on the restoration of function and the non-operative treatment of nerve, muscle, and bone disorders. Dr. Trucksess chose this specialty because it allowed her to integrate her interest in human physiology with her passion for patient care.
