He was also chief resident/assistant chief of service and director of ocular trauma at the Wilmer Eye Institute. He is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Medical Association.

Care Philosophy: Dr. Skillings is a full-time Ophthalmologist at our Murrells Inlet office where we provides comprehensive eye care including cataract surgery and laser procedures.

Care Philosophy: Alex McGaughy MD grew up in eastern North Carolina and graduated as Valedictorian from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering He received his Doctorate of Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina Following medical school Dr McGaughy completed his internship at the Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham AL and then his residency in ophthalmology at the Callahan Eye Hospital through the University of Alabama Birmingham Dr McGaughy has received numerous honors and awards throughout his education and training In medical school he was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society awarded several scholarships and selected for the Stephen D Canady Gross Anatomy Award and President s Clinical Science Award During residency he was elected to serve as Chief Resident in his final year Dr McGaughy practices in our Little River and Murrells Inlet offices where he provides medical and surgical services for a wide variety of ocular problems including cataract surgery
