Biography: Dr. Cigler received her undergraduate degree from Harvard College, and her medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine. She also holds a Master's degree in Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in Medical Oncology and Hematology at the Dana-Farber Harvard Cancer Center. Dr Cigler joined the Cornell faculty in August 2007 as a medical oncologist and clinical investigator at the Weill Cornell Breast Center.

Care Philosophy: Our medical center provides an extraordinary opportunity to work with clinicians and scientists with expertise in all facets of HIV/AIDS and clotting disorders associated with small blood vessel injury such as TTP and aHUS. Working with them in the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases for over 25 years, I have developed a strong interest in HIV-related hematologic disorders as well as osteoporosis and other metabolic complications arising during antiretroviral therapy for HIV.

Biography: Michal Bar-Natan, MD, is Interim Assistant Professor of Medicine and a member of the Leukemia Program at Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.Dr. Bar-Natan graduated cum laude from the Sackler School of Medicine. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Sheba Medical Center and her Fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at NYU Langone Health.In addition to her clinical fellowship training, Dr. Bar-Natan completed a research fellowship at Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women's Hospital (Harvard Medical School) with a focus on the role that signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) proteins play in the development and treatment of myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) and leukemias.Prior to this position Dr. Bar-Natan served as Associate Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai, an Attending Physician with the Center of Excellence for Blood Cancers and Myeloid Disorders, and as the leader of the Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia programat the Mt. Sinai Tisch Cancer Institute.Dr. Bar-Natan's focus is on translational research in malignant hematology, particularly myeloid malignancies and acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and the development of investigator-initiated clinical trials for patients with these conditions. She leads early phase clinical trials implementing new therapeutic approaches, such as immunotherapies and combination therapies, and serves as the PI and co-investigator on many clinical trials for acute leukemias and myeloproliferative neoplasms.

Biography: Dr. Waheed graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Anthropology from East Carolina University. She pursued her Medical Doctorate (MD) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine where she received the prestigious William deB. Dr. Waheed completed her Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowship at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.Prior to joining the faculty at Weill Cornell Medicine, Dr. Waheed was a faculty member at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) where she demonstrated a commitment to her patients in hematology/oncology, excelled in education and teaching of medical students and trainees, and developed a research career in complement-mediated and immune-mediated hematological disorders.Dr. Waheed has multiple peer-reviewed publications in prestigious journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Blood, American Journal of Hematology, Journal of Thrombosis and Thrombolysis, Neuro Oncology, Journal of Clinical Oncology: Clinical Cancer Informatics, and Transfusion. Due to her work in this field, Dr. Waheed has gained recognition as a rising subject matter expert, earning invitations to speak regionally and nationally. Dr. Waheed has also dedicated her time as a member of the American Society of Hematology (ASH), contributing to the ASH/Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Collaboration and Advocacy Leadership Institute, serving as an abstract reviewer, moderating sessions at the annual meeting, and participating on the subcommittee for Systems Based Hematology. On behalf of ASH, she has also met with several members of Congress in Washington, DC to advocate for the needs of hematology patients.

Biography: Christine A. Garcia, M.D., M.P.H. is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College and Assistant Attending Physician at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Garcia cares for patients with lung cancer and patients with non-malignant (benign) hematological conditions. Additionally, she is the Director of Quality and Patient Safety and serves as the Chair of the Oncology Quality and Patient Safety Committee.Dr. Garcia received her undergraduate B.S. from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She received her M.P.H. from University of Illinois at Chicago. Prior to medical school, Dr. Garcia worked for the County of San Diego Health and Human Services and University of California San Diego. She received her medical degree from St. George's University with a Distinction in Research. She then received her internal medicine training at State University of New York at Stony Brook University Hospital, where she also served as a chief resident. Dr. Garcia completed her fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.Dr. Garcia's research is focused on quality improvement initiatives in cancer care. Additionally, she is the recipient of two American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Merit Awards in Palliative Care and Quality Care for her research related to quality improvement initiatives. She is a member of American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology (ASH), American College of Physicians (ACP) and Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

Biography: Dr. Justin Kaner graduated with a B.S. in Biology from Syracuse University in 2009 where his initial interest in hematologic malignancies developed. He received his M.D. from New York Medical College in 2013 before completing his Internal Medicine Residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center. During residency Dr. Kaner pursued his interest in hematologic malignancies by undertaking several research projects mainly focused on myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML) which led to several publications in peer reviewed journals, including Leukemia and Lymphoma and Oncotarget, as well as numerous abstracts presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meetings. Additionally, Dr. Kaner served as Chief Resident after his residency at Montefiore Medical Center.Throughout his Hematology/Oncology fellowship at Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, Dr. Kaner worked in the laboratory of Dr. Monica Guzman and with clinical mentorship from Dr. Ellen Ritchie and Dr. Gail Roboz of the Weill Cornell Leukemia Program. During this time, he studied the activity of a novel therapeutic, PU-H71, in PTPN11 mutated AML as well as the prognostic impact of PTPN11 mutations in AML. During his fellowship training Dr. Kaner also developed a particular interest in early phase clinical trials and novel therapeutics for the treatment of Relapsed/Refractory AML. Dr. Kaner accepted an opportunity to remain at Weill Cornell, joining the Leukemia Program to focus on caring for hospitalized patients with various acute and chronic leukemias, MDS and myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs).

Biography: Dr. Jini Hyun is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine and Attending Physician at New York-Presbyterian Queens (NYPQ). After obtaining her Masters of Science in Pharmacology and Pharmacognosy at the Seoul National University in 2001, Dr. Hyun performed research at the University of Illinois at Chicago before obtaining her medical degree from St. George's University in 2013.She was a rotating resident at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute in 2015. In 2017, Dr. Hyun completed an internal medicine residency at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens where she also served as Chief Resident. Following residency, Dr. Hyun completed her hematology and medical oncology fellowship training at SUNY Downstate Medical Center where she held the title of Chief Fellow. Dr. Hyun is part of the Hematology and Medical Oncology team at NYPQ and is accepting new patients.
