Biography: Originally from Virginia, Dr. Merrell earned his undergraduate degree from the College of William and Mary, his master of public health and doctorate at the University of Virginia, and he did his family medicine residency and obstetric fellowship at the University of Utah. With his background in family medicine, he offers full-spectrum family care from delivering babies and helping them grow up healthy, to helping individuals have a good quality of life as adults. He said, It's really rewarding to have someone come in and say, 'Could you see my son or daughter?' and then another person says, 'My husband is sick, can he come to see you?' I enjoy being able to help all different ages. Stephen C. Merrell has worked for three and a half years, outside of training, as a primary care provider in southern Davis County. With his experiences in family medicine and obstetrics, he's credentialed to perform several types of deliveries and he's done hundreds of C-sections throughout his career. I want people to know that I also do obstetrical care along with family medicine, he said. It's a good middle-ground for some women who won't care that's a little bit more trained or skilled than their other options. I do C-sections, I'm credentialed in various deliveries, and I really enjoy that part of medicine. I like allowing women to do things as naturally as they want and then, as interventions are needed, we can step things up appropriately. Along with his practice, Dr. Merrell specializes in suicide prevention. He's a former member of a suicide prevention committee and taskforce, and he's also presented at Utah's Zero Suicide Summit. Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Merrell fuels his love for music by singing, playing piano, and performing in community musical productions. He and his wife are the parents of two children and one on the way. Dr. Merrell is also fluent in Spanish.
