Care Philosophy: As a physician, my role is to inform my patients as to what they are doing or not doing to optimize their health. I strongly advocate lifestyle change and exercise over use of prescription drugs. Ultimately, it is the patient's decision as to what will be the care plan for them. Biography: I grew up helping my father, who was a veterinarian. After a short time in veterinarian school, I realized my real desire was to take care of the pets' owners. I love working with my hands and building things, so orthopedic surgery was a natural fit. \n In 2013 I performed the first robotic partial total knee and total hip in the state of South Carolina. The advancement of technology has allowed us to perform almost 100% robotic total knee replacements. According to industry data, I am one of the leading robotic-assisted surgeons in the state and the number one robotic partial knee surgeon in Charleston, South Carolina. \n My specialized fellowship training and years of experience in joint preservation, including shoulder and knee arthroscopy, cartilage transfer and ligament reconstruction, allows me to confidently take on complex orthopedic cases. I also have extensive experience in joint reconstruction of the hip, knee and shoulder, including muscle-sparing direct anterior hip replacements, and outpatient joint replacement surgery. \n My broad training also includes ortho-biologics and regenerative medicine. I perform platelet-rich plasma injections as well as stem cell injections to help patients recover from injury or disease without surgery. My ultimate goal is to glorify God by taking excellent care of orthopedic patients.

Biography: My interest in medicine started early in college. I witnessed a motor vehicle accident on the highway and thought it would be good to have the skills to help people in need. I became an emergency medical technician and eventually a paramedic. Helping people with medical problems is both challenging and rewarding. This experience was the foundation my medical career has been built on. \n As an internist, I am able to care for any adult. In addition to being an internist, I am also a fellowship-trained and board-certified geriatrician. I enjoy the challenge of managing complexities that present in later life. Older patients bring great stories and perspective into the exam room. \n Having practiced over 20 years, I am comfortable managing complicated medical problems like heart failure or diabetes, but health promotion gives me the greatest satisfaction. The best medical problem is one that is prevented with good sleep, diet and exercise. \n Quality of life is paramount in my practice. \n In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my wife, son, daughter and dog. Getting outside is my happy place. Going to the beach and playing disc golf are the pastimes I enjoy.

Care Philosophy: In my 20 plus years as a family physician, I have learned that the most successful health outcomes occur when there is a trusting relationship between patient and provider that is built on physician empathy, honest communication and shared decision-making. In my smaller primary care practice, I see fewer patients. This allows for more time during visits, same- or next-day appointments and the ability to contact me during and after hours. This unique approach to medicine enables me to personalize care to each patient and help protect cardiovascular, pulmonary and brain health, as well as focus on prevention. I have a special interest in anti-aging techniques to reduce inflammation, reverse cell damage and improve sleep. As I have grown older, Ive adopted these healthy living strategies to help improve my own quality of life now and in the future.
