Biography: Because I enjoy helping people achieve and maintain their optimum health and wellness, going into the medical profession was a good fit for me. \n Taking care of people's health should be a partnership based on trust. And trust is built one conversation at a time. What I learn from listening to my patients helps guide me to the best treatment options that are tailored for them. \n I lived in New York for a while, and while there, I volunteered as a yoga teacher at a gay men's health crisis center. It was wonderful to give those men space to feel safe, grow in their yoga practice and enhance their health and wellness. \n When not working, I love spending time with my son, Hendrix (named for Jimi Hendrix). As you might guess, I love music. I also love to dance. My patients see evidence of both those passions in my clinic space. I have practiced many styles of dance - flamenco, ballet, modern, Horton and samba. I've recently added another to my repertoire when I signed up for African dance lessons. \n I always tell my patients: "Find a way to exercise that you will enjoy." Dance is my favorite way to unwind and burn some calories in the process.

Biography: Ever since I was 6 years old, I have wanted to be a physician. But it wasn't until medical school that I discovered family medicine was the best fit for me. It's a field that allows me to use my compassion, curiosity, grit, education and desire to improve the lives of those around me. \n Every day as a family doctor, I'm fortunate to meet, work with and help people of many different backgrounds. I love the variety of patients I encounter each day - from wide-eyed babies to wise older adults. There is no such thing as a "typical" patient, and there's no end to relevant learning, and no day void of opportunity to help someone. \n When you choose a family medicine practitioner, you're choosing to be cared for as a whole person with a unique body, situation, life experience and goals. I consider all those elements when working with patients to optimize their health in a way that aligns with their values. And I prioritize creating a safe environment that's conducive to authentic interactions. \n My natural curiosity serves me well in this role, as I seek to learn from patients, colleagues and the latest medical literature. And my persistence means that I don't stop looking for answers if the first treatment isn't fully effective. \n During medical school, I was honored to receive the Dr. Balaji Pabbu Memorial Geriatric Medicine Award at the East Carolina University Department of Family Medicine. \n Originally from Southern California, I've lived all over the country on my way to becoming a North Carolina family medicine physician. When not working, I enjoy crafting (mostly quilting and hand embroidery), finding and sending great cards via snail mail, going down various informational rabbit holes, watching sports and spending time with my friends, family and our dogs.
