Dr. Ryan grew up in the Northeast and completed his undergraduate degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology at the University of Michigan. He then returned to New England to attend medical school at Tufts University School of Medicine. He caught the "trauma bug" during his residency at Boston University Medical Center. Dr. Ryan then completed an orthopaedic trauma fellowship at R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. He returned to Boston to become the first fellowship trained traumatologist at Tufts Medical Center where he has been since 2011.Dr. Ryan is truly dedicated to taking care of orthopaedic trauma patients and prides himself on communication and attention to detail. He also loves teaching the orthopaedic residents and medical students. He considers the crowning moment of his career when his first class of residents honored him with the Tufts Residency Teaching Award. Since then he as transitioned to Orthopaedic Residency Program Director and Vice Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Matthew Salzler is an orthopedic surgeon seeing patients at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. He previously worked with professional athletes as a team physician for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins and is currently a team physician for Tufts University, Emerson College, Fisher College, the Quincy Militia semi-pro football team, as well as Cathedral, Quincy, and North Quincy High Schools. A former collegiate rower and recent triathlete, he understands the mindset of athletes. He is actively engaged in advancing the field of sports medicine through research, teaching, and his involvement with the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.
