Sonya Hovsepian, MD, MPH, is a family medicine physician with Appledore Family Medicine and Pediatrics, an academic medicine clinic, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. She is an attending physician as part of the Family Medicine Residency program affiliated with Portsmouth Regional Hospital and Tufts University. In this role, Dr. Hovsepian supervises resident physicians, training them to be the next generation of physician leaders.Dr. Hovsepian earned her Doctor of Medicine from the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio. She then completed her residency training at Albany Family Medicine in Albany, New York. Dr. Hovsepian also earned a Master of Public Health in Behavioral Sciences and Health Education from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and a Bachelor of Science in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Dr. Hovsepian provides patients with comprehensive care for patients of all ages including preventative medicine services, chronic disease management, and treatment of acute conditions. In addition to English, she is fluent in Persian, conversational in French, and has medical language skills in Spanish. She enjoys taking care of entire families (newborns through the elderly) and following with patients through the different stages of their lives. She aims to create a supportive place for her patients to discuss their concerns comfortably and to realize the most well version of themselves.

I enjoy Family Medicine because it allows me the opportunity to work with patients not only on their chronic illnesses, but also healthy preventative measures. In addition, treating patients of ages from the infant stages to the elderly is challenging and extremely rewarding.
