Biography: Dr. Alexa Martin, DO is an Obstetrics /amp Gynecology Specialist who practices in Charlotte, NC. She is 34 years old. Dr. Alexa Martin, DO is affiliated with Novant Charlotte NC.

Biography: One of the most important women in my life inspired me to make a career out of caring for other women. My grandmother was a cardiac nurse. Seeing her care for her patients sparked my interest in nursing, as I knew that I enjoyed helping people just like she did. After spending many hours alongside laboring women as a nurse, I knew I wanted to develop more lasting relationships with my patients, so I became a midwife. \n Educating my patients and making medical care more understandable and accessible are passions of mine. Both while teaching labor support classes and in a clinic setting, I am privileged to talk with women about their options and help them improve their care experience. At every stage of life, I want my patients to feel empowered to make their own decisions about their care. That includes teaching about midwifery care and explaining how it can be used alongside other obstetric care options. \n I am continually working to further my training and professional involvement so my patients can benefit from the latest advancements in midwifery and women's care. I am involved in the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. I also participated in an initiative to reduce primary cesarean section rates, and helped to implement and obtain data for a national sepsis risk initiative. Those efforts will benefit not just my patients, but maternity care as a whole. \n Our two young boys keep me and my husband busy outside of work. As a family, we love going to church, exploring nature, going on hikes, and making memories with extended family and friends. I am fortunate to get to spend a lot of time with my siblings and their kids, so my boys are close to their cousins. I'm also a big Carolina Panthers fan, and attend games whenever I can.

Biography: As early as high school, nurse practitioner Shar Watkins knew she was destined for a career in the medical field. Watkins worked as a labor and delivery RN, helping women through every stage of childbirth. She later became a nurse practitioner to help patients during all stages of life, not just when they were in the hospital. Watkins believes a large part of that excellent care is educating her patients and wants to empower young girls and women to be active participants in their health care, and to protect and take care of their bodies. Watkins understands the concerns facing busy mothers, as a mother of four herself. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her family reading James Patterson books and loves spoken word poetry.

Biography: Ever since I was a little girl, I have wanted to fix "boo-boos" and take care of those around me. That instinct was coupled with seeing how her nursing career changed my mother's life and provided opportunity for my family and all of it led me to the medical field. When it came time for me to choose a specific career path, I leaned into women's health; I found that I was drawn to not only the care that women receive, but the care that they deserve. \n Through my work, I have become even more passionate about women's health, especially maternal healthcare; medical access and equity amongst minorities; quality care for those wanting to start families. I'm very passionate about taking care of moms and caring for postpartum depression and mental health. I am honored to play a significant role in women's lives and build trusting relationships with them. I want them to know they are not going through life's stages alone. I get to know each of my patients so I can provide the best care not just for their health condition but also for their lifestyle. \n My husband and our daughter keep me busy outside of work and brighten each of my days. I am proud of my Trinidadian roots and culture, and look for chances to share that with friends. When I have free time, I love traveling, reading or eating great food.
