Dr. Ali Akbar, MD

I'm sure he's quite knowledgeable in his field, but he had little to say before or after the colonoscopy, other than 'no cancer,' which was great news, obviously, but I never heard from him or anyone in his office regarding polypectomy lab results, even after I called to ask about it. If not for receiving an automatic email notification that results were available via patient portal, I still wouldn't know anything; and to date, I no idea if or when I might need to return for followup visit or repeat screening.

Dr. Akbar is extremely knowledgeable of his field. He is also a good listener, kind and gracious. I have experienced better gastro health with him as my doctor.

Diagnosed me immediately and put me on the correct medication and I have not had any problems with my stomach at all.

I was a patient of Dr. Akbar's for 4 years. He was the provider who diagnosed me with Crohn's disease. Although I was anxious and stressed about my new diagnosis, Dr. Akbar was amazing with explaining the plan of care and answering all of my questions. Recently, I moved to Houston and I had to find a new gastroenterologist to manage my Crohn's disease. I saw two different providers and each was giving conflicting recommendations. I left a message with Dr. Akbar's office to see if he would help me understand and process the new information. Dr. Akbar called me within a few days. Even though I am no longer his patient, he was willing to talk to me about any new information I had been given and help discuss my treatment options moving forward. I am thankful for physicians like Dr. Akbar, and I hope my new provider is half as great!

Dr. Akbar was thorough and helpful in my initial “screening” today, prior to set-up of my second colonoscopy. Unpleasant encounters and unnecessary invasive and dangerous practices have made me concerned about large scale medical practices, but with his explanation, a second scoping (first done age 55...null result but some polyps found in my mother about age 70 have made the procedure advisable, as well as a positive Cologuard DNA level test) all seems good & appropriate.

Dr. Akbar takes time to explain things, which is great. However, he does not listen to my questions and concerns. I told him of my symptoms, and he was not concerned in the least. A second opinion from another physician in the group was completely different and I received an immediate diagnosis and treatment plan.
