I cried after my appointment with him and I start crying when I think about it. He was humiliating. Just because he can't see my pain, he assumed it didn't exist. He shrugged his shoulders when I asked why I was in pain. He told me past diagnosis I received "were impossible" (check the research jerk, it's possible), and implied I was lying about filling out the pre-check because it didn't show on his computer, and trying to trick me about the medication i was taking because I couldn't remember the dosage. He refused to look at documentation I brought about a possible alternative diagnosis. I will never see him again, and I hope you don't see him to start.

I used to see Dr. Ruthberg when he practiced in Lexington Kentucky. He does not have a perfect ‘bedside manner’ and it took me a while to get to know him. However, he is very knowledgeable and much more caring than is immediately evident. I learned this really when my husband died. He had treated both of us at that time. He is an excellent doctor and a much more caring individual than most people realize. I wish he was close enough for me to see him again as my rheumatologist.

I am sure the guy is knowledgeable but when he saw that I had nothing auto immune going on he was dismissive and rude. I asked him why I was in so much pain and he shrugged and said he had no answers for me. I went instead to a physical medicine doctor who diagnosed me with Ehlers Danlos and found some good treatment options. Bedside manner, it's actually a thing.

I have only seen Dr. Ruthberg once so far but out of the six Rheumatologists I have seen since 1997, he is pretty thorough and seems interested in cause and solution. We'll see how my next appointment goes!

I think I can say I've witnessed a revolution. When I finished my program, standard treatment for rheumatoid arthritis was something called injectable gold. In the 1980's a product called methotrexate became very popular. Around 1999 a whole group...read more
