Very successful Lamenectomy of L3-L4
I'm thankful I found this very talented neurosurgeon. I had severe stenosis at L3-L4. I was up to 8 spinal epidurals a year, which didn't completely address the numbness and sciatic nerve pain from my lower back to my toes. I originally was planning on an open lamenectomy, but sought a second opinion. His suggestion of a minimally invasive surgery was a great idea: Quicker healing time, no overnight stay in the hospital, No staples, just stiri strips., 100% outpatient. Also, Dr. Houseman's communication skills were exceptional, even getting calls back in the evening for Q's I had earlier in the day. That's unheard of. He explains things etremely well. The entire surgical experience was positive from the Providence Hospital Southfield staff from pre-op to recovery. From the time of surgery to the completion of PT - about 2 and a half months - I had my painfree body back from long ago. I would not hesitate to use Dr. Houseman again if I have any back pain issues.

Very professional.
I was thoroughly impressed. Dr Houseman did an excellent job at repairing and fusing my C-5 - C7 cervical spine. I was in and out in a couple days and already feeling better then when I went in. I highly recommend for any spinal repairs you might need.

Love Dr. Houseman
I absolutely love, love, love Dr. Houseman. I have been a patient since 2018 or 2019. He is certainly a compassionate, caring doctor. His beside manner is wonderful. He is knowledgeable, listens, and responds very well. He explains everything well, takes his time to make sure I understand things. He is willing to answer all questions, and he is not quick to say surgery, which I like. As an older person, it is very important to me that I am heard and that a doctor is not being dismissive with me and he is never dismissive. I am very comfortable with how Dr. Houseman interacts with me.If you are in need of a doctor in his field, you could not find a better one than Dr. Houseman. I highly recommend him.

Compassionate Patient Care! The best in my book.
I needed help and Doctor Houseman provided it. I couldn't have asked for a bigger blessing. He reassured me that he could help me and he did. Doctor Houseman is honest, straight forward, and doesn't over promise. Doctor Houseman has terrific patience and listens to what his patients have to say. Thank you, Doctor Houseman for everything you have done for me! I could go on and on, but I may get too emotional describing this wonderful doctor. Doctor Houseman made me feel like family and I am so grateful he treated as if I was. Thank you again for all your help.

You Won't Find Better
If you need a back surgeon look no further than Dr. Houseman. I cannot give enough compliments to Dr. Houseman and his staff. From the very beginning Dr. Houseman has been nothing short of spectacular. He did everything he could to help me avoid surgery (something you should want in a surgeon). I ended up having to have a fusion and I couldn't have asked for a better surgeon to perform the procedure. Not only is Dr. Houseman a talented surgeon, he is an attentive, knowledgeable, caring and kind person. I would strongly recommend Dr. Houseman to anyone needing spinal care.

Dr. Houseman is the best! He's never too busy to answer Questions and explains what procedures he's planning of doing as well as the risks that are possible. He always put his patience at ease. My spinal cord was on the verge of being pinched. He explained how serious it was and that I could die or even be paralyzed from the neck on down. Because of the seriousness of the surgery, recovery was going to be long and include a lot of rehab, exercise and learning to walk, My surgery was in February 2020, just before the pandemic hit, but I'm happy to say i made it through the surgery alive and able to walk. There are times when I need to go into therapy for a tune up and do have limitations, but part of that is age. I'm extremely blessed that Dr. Houseman was on call the night I was rushed to the hospital. If you need a neurosurgeon who is kind, compassionate and knows what he is doing, he's the man. I'd recommend Dr. Houseman to family, friend or anyone anytime.

I came to Dr. C. Houseman about headaches. He said nothing was seen on the MRI. I went to another doctor told him about my symptoms the same symptoms I told Dr. C. Houseman and showed him the same MRI disc that I got from Dr. C. Houseman. He found Chiari malformation stage 1 4mm!!! I wonder how many other patients came to him about the same symptoms and he said nothing was WRONG! PLEASE READ ABOUT CM SYMPTOMS DOCTOR C. HOUSEMAN BEFORE YOU SEND SOMEONE ELSE AWAY SO NEXT TIME YOU WILL KNOW!!!! I PRAY TO GOD THAT NO ONE IN YOUR FAMILY GET IT (CM) NEXT TIME LISTEN TO YOUR PATIENTS AND LOOK AT YOUR MRI CAREFULLY!????

Dr. Houseman and his office team are caring & compassionate. Dr. Houseman takes the time to fully explain what is going on and why. I am truly thankful that I, not only found Dr. Houseman, but that he agreed to take me on as a patient & do my surgery to give me a second chance at life without pain. Dr. Clifford Houseman saved my life, literally. Because he is so experienced with issues related to the spine, he knew immediately after reviewing the MRI of my problem what needed to be done to get me back to normal. He has excellent bedside manner too, he knew I was so nervous for the surgery so he called me at home and reviewed my options and the situation with me an additional time after the regular visit to try to ease my concerns. I will always be grateful for the care I received from Dr. Clifford Houseman.

If you need or are contemplating back or neck surgery, I highly recommend Dr. Houseman. First, he is extremely pleasant and courteous, and his bedside manors are some of the best out there. He explains such that anyone can understand. He listens and observes well. Plus, it is obvious he loves his work which is rewarding to see. All traits are key to providing the patient with a successful outcome. Dr. Houseman performed artificial disc replacement on me in April 2019 on C3-C4. I had a previous fusion 10 years prior by another surgeon fusing C5 to C7. I wanted to consider options to fusion for this surgery. I consulted with other surgeons and Dr. Houseman was highly recommended to me. Dr. Houseman offered artificial disc replacement but was careful to explain he could not guarantee my outcome due to my previous fusion and the lack of history with this procedure. After 5 weeks, I was back to a normal schedule which included running and working out. Thanks Dr. Houseman!

Dr. Houseman exudes confidence with a reassuring bedside manner. He takes care to explain the patients condition and his approach to correcting the problem. He spends time with the patient to discuss alternative approaches to solving the problem and is not in a rush to perform surgery unless the condition requires it. His staff follows his lead in displaying the same outstanding characteristics. A truly outstanding neurosurgeon.

I had severe back pain in my lower back when I went to see Dr. Houseman. He worked with me but initially I requested the surgery date be postponed and he rescheduled it for me later. Unfortunately that was the worse thing I ever did. He informed me that my lower back needed extensive surgery and I am so relived that he has done so much for me. He continues to monitor my care and I appreciate it. Trust me if you need any medical care for your back please seek out Dr. Houseman.
