Dr. Shumaker is knowledgeable, approachable, well informed about my health conditions, and always respectful about listening to my input. I’ve had many gastroenterologists and I can say definitively that Dr. Shumaker is the best.

Dr. Shumaker is an absolute blessing. I had a gallbladder removed by another Dr and had constant issues that required I take 10 pills a day for 3+ years... until Dr Shumaker did a procedure to remove a stone that was left behind (not as uncommon as some think)... no complications with him, he gave me my life back. I can't speak highly enough... I trust him completely... and he was so warm and understanding to boot!

Had been seeing him for colon. Had Hernia 10 yrs ago 4 inches he refused to do a scan ended up in hospital 2 times a yr for 10 yr . Now it grew to 9 inches giant hernia. Surgery did not go well. Asked for his help to see what went wrong. He did CT scam MR I which all wrong does not show hernia the scope would should if any thing was wrong. If you have this issue run from this guy. SAD.

I have been seeing Dr Douglas Shumaker for several years now. During my first colonoscopy he found a large precancerous mass. He quickly recommended 3 surgeons for me to consider and provided support during the process. After successful surgery, I continue to require more frequent colonoscopies to monitor any changes and remove polyps. Dr Shumaker and his team are totally professional, always communicating clearly and compassionately every step of the preparation and the procedure. From check-in to recovery room, I always feel in good hands. Although no one is thrilled to get a colonoscopy, Dr Shumaker and his team at The Oregon inic Gastroenterology West make everything go very smoothly. They demonstrate what great health care can be. I am generally very critical of most of the health care institutions that I have used. Dr. Shumaker and his team could show those other institutions what true patient care is all about. Dr Shumaker and his team truly are the best.

I have seen Dr. Shumaker for a number of years and I’m more than happy with him. He explains everything and is very conscious of my feelings and my ability to understand the procedure and the results. He makes sure I understand what he’s told me and I like that. Some doctors explain and I’m left to decipher what they say.

Perfect, comforting, informative care from all providers

I found Dr Shumaker to be articulate, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. He is a very skilled surgeon and can clearly explain what he intends to do and why. He exudes a sense of knowledge and competence. I was especially impressed that he not only came into my hospital room the morning of my surgery, but he was also there when I came to. At each point, he was more than willing to answer any of my questions. The only negative comment I can make is a complaint about how long I had to wait to see Dr Shumaker for my initial visit.

I've been going to Dr. Shumaker for over 15 years for microscopic colitis (collagenous colitis) and he is the best. Has done multiple colonoscopies with patience and understanding. This condition causes uncontrollable, explosive diarrhea with no cure and has me on the best course of treatment I have had to date. Not only that, he is easy to talk to about it, understands how embarrassed and uncomfortable I feel about this condition and how it affects me, my life and family. I would recommend him to anyone.

Outstanding patient care from check in to end of visit.

Dr Shoemaker has been managing my ulcerative colitis for somewhere around 10 years now (after my previous doctor retired). During that time, I’ve had almost as many colonoscopies there, and many office visits. I feel very fortunate to have Dr Shoemaker caring for me. He is simply outstanding, and I hope to stay with him for a very long time. If you’re looking for an extremely good GI specialist, I can highly recommend him. You won’t be disappointed.

Colonoscopy care was excellent. The intro to clinic, nurses, cleanliness, and anesthesia, procedure and Sedation all went very well. Dr Shumaker explained the results thoroughly and understandably. We will utilize the Clinics services in the future.
