Talented Neurosurgeon
I sought out a neurosurgeon who was experienced in minimally invasive techniques to remove two discs at my L2-3 and L3-4 level and place surgical screws to correct Scoliosis. I was having falls due to my nerves being compressed causing knees to go numb and give way. I had a disc removed at L4-5 with screws about 12 years ago. The difference in Post Op pain was much less extreme due to the advancements in techniques. Dr. Pennings is very talented in this field, his team works well with him and speak highly of him as well. He has an easy-going manner and is thorough and took all the time I needed. I don't think I could have found a better surgeon to do my procedure. He was kind caring and pleasant. His assistant, Michael Bennett, was awesome and easy to talk to as well. What a great group! I was able to leave the hospital the day after surgery and am recovering quickly.

Dr. Pennings looked at my almost paralyzed hand and immediately diagnosed me with nerve compression due to severe carpal tunnel syndrome. He and his office staff got me tested and into the operating room in less than a week. Thanks to Dr. Pennings - I immediately began to regain feeling and strenth in my hand and now have recovered 100%. Because the carpal tunnel was addressed so quickly and accurately permanent nerve damage was avoided. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Pennings for fixing my hand and helping me to get back to work very quickly.

I was unable to lift heavier things and was experiencing periods of weakness, pain and instability in my leg. After delaying surgery for years due to fears of having spine surgery, I found out about Dr. Pennings and his minimally invasive techniques. After meeting Dr. Pennings and his PA Michael, I felt comfortable enough to go ahead and have surgery. In February, Dr. Pennings did decompression of a couple of disks and partial ligament removal to free up space. I can now lift heavier things again and feel like I can walk normally again. It was amazing to walk out of the hospital post-surgery on the same day. Thank you Dr. Pennings, Michael and the Mercy Medical Center for having a very positive surgery experience.

My son Michael had an accident in 2008 at 16 years old, while he was practicing for motto cross. He hit an apple tree and was rushed to hospital via ambulance. He was treated for internal bleeding, broken bones and a fractured spine. He was on a morphine drip for almost a week in pediatric icu. Dr Pennings did his surgery and they say he had to have seven angels around him when he hit the tree. I know God was there. He also shouldn’t have lived or been able to walk ... but I know God guided this surgeons hands. He was walking a week after surgery because of Dr. Pennings amazing skills as a surgeon. I thank God he was my sons surgeon and high,y recommend him.

Dr. Penning has done 3 surgeries on/for me. He tells you like it is and that is so refreshing now a day. He is honest and upfront and while he gives you all of your options he also recommends which one you should take and why, often using reasoning you haven't even thought of. I have followed him through 2 hospitals and doubt (and hope) to never have to be treated by anyone else again.

I had back surgery with Dr Penning. The day after surgery I was up and walking around. I had minimal pain. Two weeks later I resumed my workout routine at the YMCA. Thank you Dr Penning and his associate, Michael. Sorry I don't remember Michaels last name. Both are great!

I had lower back surgery by Dr.Pennings in October because I had a cyst wrapped around my spinal cord plus lower back pain due to three bulging disk. When I went to see Dr. Pennings I could barely walk, and I'm a very active person so this was not a good thing for me. Dr.Pennings and his staff and assistant were wonderful and I could not have been happier with them and the results. I can now walk again and do the things I love without the pain in my legs. Thank you to Dr.Pennings and your staff

I used to suffer from headaches every day until I had 2 discs removed from my neck and replaced with artificial ones by Dr. Pennings on Sept 28. Headaches subsided immediately. Surgical pain was minimal and scar is barely noticeable. I would highly recommend him.

I have had back problems most of my adult life. I have had 4 previous surgeries, a bilateral spinal cord simulator and scoliosis, and live on daily pain medication. Dr Pennings was able to fix the scoliosis, do a fusion and end the daily back and groin pain. I now am off of the pain meds. I can sit longer and do so much more. I can't Thank him enough! Very nice staff. Wonderful surgeon, wonderful follow up. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing back surgery.

Dr. Pennings performed a fusion on my L4-L5 spine on August 10 as it was in real bad shape due to miss alignment for a number of years. After 6 weeks of recovery at home, I can once again walk a mile without pain, and my golf game has improved. I recommend anyone seeking relief from spinal stenosis to contact Dr. Pennings for a consultation.

Dr Pennings performed emergency surgery on me for acute cauda equina syndrome from a herniated disc at L5-S1. This was a terrifying situation for me as I was paralyzed in my saddle, R leg, and lost control of my bladder. Had it not been for his quick recognition and action I would have been paralyzed. Today I am able to walk, am pain/pill free and have an excellent quality of life. His positivity and belief in my recovery gave me hope and helped me keep a positive mindset when it was hard.

I was lucky enough to get referred to Dr Pennings from the Spine Center, and really thank God I did. I was suffering from a massive herniation in L4, leaving me in severe pain for months. Dr Pennings explained what he saw in the MRI and how to fix it. He was concerned about my losing strength in my foot and was able to quickly get me in for a microdiscectomy. A week later I was lying in the recovery room pain free! Great surgeon, great care, great guy. Dr. Pennings gave me my life back

Great doctor. Helped me with a c5 disk removal and fuse. No pain or complications. 60 days out scar is almost gone. Can not say enough good things about this doctor. Don't use anyone else, just make an appointment. Not only did he help me, a friend went to see him after a complication from another doctor and he helped her also. Thank you Dr Pennings, my pain and numbness in my arm is gone. Ed Minnie.
