AMAZING DOCTOR
Dr. Allen literally saved my life! I had a colonoscopy scheduled with him and he received a report from a recent visit to the ER and he called me and left a message with his cell number. First of all, what doctor gives you their personal cell? Anyway, I called him back and we chatted quite a bit. He told me that if I was still unwell by a certain date to call him and he would order a cdiff test. Unfortuantely I was unwell and had to call him and get the test done. Test results came back negative and I was overall feeling fine. The next day I took a major turn for the worse. My blood pressure had dropped dangerously low and I was weak and feeling bad. This was a Sunday. I texted him and he texted right back and told me to get to the ER ASAP. I did, I was admitted for 4 days. He honestly saved my life and I am so grateful for him. We have communicated on and off since then (October 2024) via text. I cannot say enought good things about him. He is truly an amazing Doctor!

exceptional first visit
From the front desk to the goodbye, I felt a peace and comfort from each member of the staff at Wake Forest Endoscopy. Dr Allen was caring and patient and light hearted and made my first experience painless and I mean that. Highly recommend.

Great experience
Went in for first preventive colonoscopy and was a bit anxious about the process. Dr Allen immediately set my mind at ease talking about how useful the procedure was in getting ahead of issues or concerns. Asked good questions about swallowing and acid reflux issues, which i thought were just part of being older and out of shape. he recommended an endoscopy since it was super simple to do while i'd already be under for the colonoscopy. Both procedures were super easy, and he even followed up with a personal phone call to deliver results and answer any questions! HIghly recommend Dr. Allen!

Dr. Allen and Support Team
Janice and I had recent colonoscopy checks with Dr. Allen and his team. From the get go with Wendy and the registration process, through the nurses and Dr. Allen, everyone was highly interpersonal, thorough, and professional. Dr. Allen has an excellent sense of humor and outstanding bedside manner. As a marketing professor at WVU who has written extensively about customer service, these folks are an A+ healthcare provider.

1st and last visit. He was very rude. He is anti-use of herbal remedies, and stated to me they were only taking my money. Also disagreed with lab reports about my GI problems. Even stated that older white men get Barrett's esophagus and then ask me if I had a sex change. Kept using his phone and texting then slammed down his phone. I brought copies of my notes and he kept slamming them down. Would hardly let me talk. Kept telling me the cost of a coloscopy was expensive, I have insurance, and that he would go up in me if the advice he had given me didn't work. Made this statement about going up in me several times. Then he told me to start drinking warm prune juice and eating kiwi. I told him I was taking some herbal remedies this is when he told me they were only taking my money. The Worst GI visit I have ever had in my life. Had a scribe sitting in on the visit.

Dr. Allen is the best in the procedures he has done for me for over 20 years. I traveled 80 miles to get my procedure done by him and the great staff that supports him. He explains in a way that can be understood by the patient. I am so happy that he has joined your group, as many Virginia residents followed him down to Wake Forest.

Dr. Allen and his staff are top-notch! From the ease of making an appointment to the colonoscopy itself, I could not ask to have been treated better. After the colonoscopy was completed, Dr. Allen went over in great detail what he found. I had five polyps with two of them being 30 mm or greater. Dr. Allen completely removed all of the polyps. With having two very large polyps, I was definitely worried that the pathology report would indicate colon cancer. A member of Dr. Allen's staff also called to check on me and answered all my questions as well. My pathology results came back in just a few days. Dr. Allen called me on a Saturday with the results. I would have never expected to get the results over the weekend. This shows me that Dr. Allen really cares about his patients. Fortunately, the news was good. During our conversation, Dr. Allen answered all my questions with clear explanations and care. Thank you Dr. Allen! I am blessed to have you as my doctor!

Dr Allen was the 1st Dr in 20yrs to hang in there with me to find the right type of medication to help me. He is thoughtful and respectful, with a great personality. I would recommend Dr Allen to all my friends and relatives. Dr Allen's office staff are also very professional, willing to assist in scheduling and insurance issues.

Dr Allen took the time to ask questions and really listen to my responses before determining a course of action. He was very thorough and I never felt rushed. I have suffered from this problem for a while and he suggested a couple different options and we have determined a course of action including medication and some tests to determine the root cause. His office was very prompt and efficient in arranging for the procedure. Dr. Allen took time out from his day off to see me and arrange for treatment.

Several members of my family have seen Dr. Allen a number of times since he has been in South Hill. He is always professional and compassionate. On my last experience, Dr. Allen was able to see my family member on short notice. He took an extraordinary amount of time with us explaining the problem and the consequences if proper care and treatment is not followed. Yes - we had to wait but I know that when I am waiting, he is giving that same care to another patient in front of me.

Waited over 2 1/2 hours to see this physician who then spent most of the 5-10 minute appointment talking about himself. He wanted to rush me into a procedure; so I went to a different doctor who actually asked questions about me! No procedure required.

I have known Dr. Allen for nearly 20 years and have referred many of my patients from primary care to him for gastrointestinal (GI) issues and screening procedures. Recently, one of my close family members required urgent GI evaluation and my first choice was, without question, Dr. Allen. I saw firsthand how diligently he worked to evaluate, diagnose, and treat her. We, as a rural community and in healthcare, are extremely lucky to have someone with his expertise and knowledge base.

Dr. Allen has been our family gastroenterologist for more than ten years and has always been professional and timely in his scheduling of routine procedures and in giving results. For two years I had episodes of extreme diarrhea that I tried to conceal and control to no avail. Finally a visit to Dr. Allen, who was persistent, diligent, and professional in his diagnosis and care, took me back to a normal lifestyle. Life is good again thanks to Dr. Allen—an excellent caregiver!

By far the most experienced and caring physician that I have ever seen in my 41+ years. He has a compassion for his patients that rivals a love of a family. I find him to be trustworthy and caring and intelligent and confident about his craft. He is reminiscent of “old timey” physicians that actually care for those that they help. We, as a community, are fortunate to have such a great physician looking after us all.

A worthless, arrogant lying doctor. His expertise is untrustworthy. I recommend no one see this idiot. A pitifully cramped office and overbooked appointments. Barely any room to sit down. It took nearly 3 hours to be seen by him. No one was available to even take a copay on the way out. No lights on outside either. Don't go there.
