Long waits, Over-bills, Rude Staff
We would give 0 stars if we could. We have been seeing this doctor at this practice for over a decade and feel like herded cattle here. Wait times are horrendous and the waiting room is always like a sardine can, so plan to spend the whole day here if you have an appointment. God help you if you need to call for anything because that's always hours of your life wasted. This office consistently overcharges and overbills insurance and the staff are rude about 80% of the time. The doctor recommends unnecessary tests and prescriptions that are questioned by our other doctors. Asking this office to fill out paperwork to coordinate care with other doctors and the local hospital is a chore; it takes weeks and constant follow up calls from you and your other doctors. The back and forth from this put our scheduled hospital care in jeopardy as did the office manager's insistence on additional tests before the papers would be completed. Avoid this doctor and this practice.

Beware of Dr. Patel's prescription pad!
Dr. Patel is an over prescriber. My husband suffered a traumatic brain injury. His neuro doctors could not understand why he was on so many meds. They felt Dr. Patel was very negligent in 1) over pre-scribing and 2) not adjusting meds after significant weight loss and elapse of time. Blood thinners are not your friend.

Practice is Oversubscribed
Unfortunately I love the practice. However over the past 3 visits my wait time has averaged 1.5 hours (it is justo very 2 hours for my last). This is absolutely unacceptable. This kind of wait for 10-15 minutes of a Doctor’s time and/or a 15 minute test.

Dr Patel treated me after I had a heart attack. Prescribed multiple meds to control blood pressure even though I had no blood pressure issues. Kept me Plavix for 3 years. Blood pressure meds made me light headed when I got up especially in the middle of the night. Got up one night and passed out hitting my head on the bathroom floor resulting in a bleed on the brain. Spent 9 weeks in intensive care and 6 months in rehab hospitals. Have lingering affects from the bleed. Was told by several doctors that I never should hev been on Plavix for more than 9 months

I also saw Dr. Patel for years. He does over prescribe which results in very debilitating side effects. When I reported the difficulties, he disregarded what I said and never altered my medication. I reported all this to my primary care physician, who is board certified in internal medicine. This doctor was able to diagnose and treat the underlying causes and significantly modify my medications so that I no longer suffer such painful and debilitating side effects. I went through years of needless pain and discomfort. Dr. Patel is not competent in my opinion. Yes, it is also true that he had to repay Medicare/Medicaid over $500,000 for duplicate billings or what is called "up-coding"; charging for a more expensive procedure that was never performed. This is a matter of public record. This case was handled by the Western District of the US Attorney General & reported by the Frederick News Post. This kind of matter makes me question someone's primary motive for practicing medicine.

Extremely disappointed in the level of care my mom received this year. She sees him every few months only to not get any answers for her discomfort after multiple ER visits. Finally, another Dr saw and diagnosed my mom with CHF after my mom had followed up with Patel the previous week after two ER visits only to say she was okay and did not order other tests. After another admission to FMH, Paresh came in to see her at FMH wanting to discharge her after a cath, and he said a TEE could be done out patient but I refused her discharge and requested the TEE be done there. She was not at her baseline. She not only has CHF, her EF was down to 20%, and her heart valves were not functioning well. She was immediately transferred from FMH to UMMC for a week having to get every test done again before they decided what to do because her heart was in poor condition, and now has to have open heart surgery. All of this missed, by Patel and the group.

I was a patient of Dr. Patel's for years. WAS because I read he was apparently ripping off Medicare and Medicaid for years, charging for services that were not performed. This is why he agreed to pay over $500,000 in a settlement with the US government. (This is a matter of public record, just google and read about the nasty mess for yourself. ) Now what about all those patients who thought they were seeing a doctor they could trust, who may have had their lives in his hands?

Dr. Patel takes the time to explain everything in detail. He is optimistic while also being realistic. He'll take whatever time is needed to discuss the situation and he'll show on the computer how he arrives at his diagnosis. I get a re-assuring feeling that my health is in the hands of a well-informed and astute physician.

I would not recommend Dr. Patel. He overprescribes and does not change his prescriptions even when weight has been lost or recommended changes have been made. My husband suffered a traumatic brain injury from a simple fall. The simple fall was traumatic due to the blood thinner he was on. This was prescribed by Dr. Patel three years before. Many well know cardiologists could not believe my husband was still on blood thinners after such a long time.
