We had moved here from Southern California where we are used to having excellent physicians. I was very concerned about our medical care here as we have heard from people who live here that it’s not great. We were pleasantly surprised to find Dr. Ameika. I have been in the medical field most all of my life and I know an excellent doctor when I find one. Dr. Ameika is an excellent doctor. He has practiced for many years and with that comes excellent experience. He is very thorough, up to date on all cardiovascular treatments and he has an excellent bedside manner. I highly recommend him if you need to find a cardiologist on the island.

I had 3 visits with Dr Ameika. He does not appear to be board certified as far as I was able to ascertain. He is a former vascular surgeon who moved to cardiology to live in a small town in Hawaii. He revels in talking about himself and his previous career. Gory details of horrible situations (completely unrelated to my health) were discussed at 2 visits. He does not believe in a collaborative approach in working with patients. He likes to tell one what to do and doesn't want feedback from his patient. He was quite dismissive of my feedback. He is the only cardiologist within an hour's drive. Covid precautions were observed and were followed for the most part. I do not plan to return and will drive a long distance to see another cardiologist.
