Rt. Bunion correction & fusion rt. foot midtarsal
Dr. DeOrio was wonderful. He showed me my X-rays, diagnosed the problems with my right foot and told me his plan for surgery to correct the 1, 2, & 3 metatarsals and arthritis. My surgery went great. I followed his directions for recovery and everything went just as explained. I also received a block during surgery that lasted about 6-7 days. Between keeping my foot elevated and the block I avoided little pain medication. It has been nearly two years and my foot feels great and looks great too.

Highest Recommendation to Dr. DeOrio and Team.
Highest Recommendation to Dr. DeOrio and Team. I traveled to Duke Medical in Durham, N.C., and had a TAR in March of 2022 with Dr. DeOrio and the team. On the front end, I researched the most experienced practice in the U.S. and found the Duke Team with Dr. DeOrio as the most qualified. During the entire process, I experience zero pain or discomfort. Post Op, I elevated my ankle 23 hours a day for two weeks and took the prescribed pain medication. After that, I was able to sit up ~30 minutes more per day. I now walk 2.5 miles 3 time a week. I can now walk as much as I like and have regained my life!

Miracle Worker
Dr.DeOrio saw me after a failed triple arthrodesis in another state. It took several months to see him at that time, because he was teaching all over the nation. He did an ankle replacement on my ankle which had the failed surgery. The results were just as he predicted, and a year later, he replaced my other ankle which also had excellent results. The surgeries corrected deformities that hav developed and removed most of the pain in both ankles. Seven years later, I am walking about two miles a day with minimal arthritic pain. I am thankful every day for Dr.Deorio’s skilled hands and empathetic manner. Having surgery and going home to another state was no problem, because I was given a nerve block which lasted for several days. Duke Hospital provided excellent care both times that I had the surgeries.

Life Changing Surgery for me and my wife
Dr. DeOrio performed ankle replacement on me during the height of COVID. He and his team were very professional and had in place measures to keep me safe during my surgery and follow up appointments. My wife and I were amazed at the well planned process and program for my surgery and recovery. Prior to the surgery the pain I was experiencing was affecting my mobility and quality of life. My recovery was smooth and pretty much pain free. I am two years out from surgery and continue to experience no pain. My mobility is back and I recently spent two weeks in Europe and encountered no difficulty keeping up with our tour group which made my wife very happy.

Total Ankle Replacement
In 2001, I had a total ankle replacement done under an FDA trial by a reputable Orthopedic Surgeon in New Jersey. That ankle replacement served me very well for approximately 10 years. I started having some minor issues but my original Doctor had retired and the ankle I had did not receive final FDA approval. I found Dr. DeOrio at Duke University and scheduled a visit. After x-rays and an examination, Dr. DeOrio found that my ankle replacement had a worn out part and had created two bone cysts. He recommended an immediate replacement with the In-Bone Total Ankle replacement. I scheduled the surgery for 4/28/2011. After my post-surgery visits and multiple check-up visits with Dr. DeOrio over the past 11 1/2 years, my ankle looks, feels, and works as good as it did after my surgery. I cannot put into words what this ankle replacement has meant to me and what it has done for my life. Dr. DeOrio and the team of professionals he works with are Superior at what they do and I'm grateful.

Ankle Replacement Surgery
On 8/29/22, I visited Dr. DeOrio for a check on the status of the replacement performed in April 2019. The surgery was highly successful with no follow on problems requiring any servicing for any reason. The evaluation performed at this visit resulted in a status of "excellent". Dr. DeOrio is to be continually highly commended for his outstanding surgical expertise!

Fabulous experience!
Jusy had my 1 year followup...after an ankle replacement done by Dr. Diorio, and now I am participating in a sprint level triathlon! I had an incredibly positive experience this year. Everything he said would happen after surgery happened on schedule. I was walking pain free 4 months after surgery and back to yoga and other exercises. He is a very efficient, personable doctor. I have the utmost respect for his expertise.

Two Years Post Total Ankle Replacement
My two year post-op ankle replacement visit was friendly and very positive. There was very little waiting and I felt comfortable during the entire process. Dr. DeOrio showed me the current ankle x rays and explained what he saw; he answered all of my questions and was easy to talk with. After years of pain and limited walking I could not be happier with the ankle replacement. I recently took a seven mile hike on mixed terrain with no difficulty and no pain afterwards. I no longer experience swelling and very rarely mild aching after vigorous exercise such as gardening, cycling, and yoga. I highly recommend Dr. DeOrio for a total ankle replacement. The new Duke facility on Arringdon Park Dr, Morrisville, NC is very nice. All staff I interacted with were friendly, respectful, courteous and efficient.

Dr. DeOrio has performed surgery on my left foot that has allowed me to be able to walk normally for the first time in 6 years. I could not find anyone in my area who could or would attempt to do the type of surgery I needed so I started searching on line. I am glad I found him although I have to travel several hours to see him it has been well worth it. He was good at explaining through X-rays what my problem was & how he was going to fix it. I have had two back surgery's, stomach surgery & knee replacement but none of them have been as efficient in the result as I have had with my collapsed foot (which he said was one of the worst he had ever seen). I am without pain & can walk & stand effortlessly for the first time in six years. My recovery time of four months or so was somewhat rough but the results were well worth it. Thanks to Dr. DeOrio & his staff for a fine job.

I fell 9 ft into a concrete swimming pool crushing my heal. The Xray looked ready bad and the pain was awful. Dr. DeOrio performed my surgery and did a wonderful job. After Surgery he told my wife what he did to repair my broken heel and told me what to do and not to do to facilitate a successful healing process. The results of my six week followup where amazing. Other than the 3 screws proudly revealing themselves in the Xray, you could not tell my foot had been injured. I was super excited when Dr. DeOrio told me I could start driving and putting some weight on my foot wearing the protective boot and with the use of one crutch for 3 more weeks and after that put my shoe on and work my way back to being 100%. It was a miracle I said and anther amazing thing is that I never experienced any pain after my surgery. I thank God I'm still living and for gifting Dr. DeOrio the ability to do such an amazing job in repairing my foot. Thank you Dr. DeOrio!!

Regaining Freedom
Discouraged by appointments with multiple doctors whose only remedy for pain and decreased mobility were medications, I had the good fortune some years ago to learn of the work of Dr. Deorio. Impressive in his ability to understand my frustration at increasing dependence on a wheelchair, he performed a complete ankle replacement. A smooth operation and virtually painless, this has allowed my husband and me to pursue our passion of traveling the world. Recently Dr. Deorio performed extensive repairs to my other foot. A few weeks out now, and no longer in cast or boot, I can again look forward to more travel. Without reservation I recommend Dr. Deorio most highly to anyone suffering foot and ankle issues.

For twenty plus years, I looked for a doctor to help me with a defect I had in my ankle. Nights of suffering, pain pills and I was always told I was inoperable. Dr. DeOrio just looked at me and said, "I will try and fix this," and so he did. Thank you Dr. DeOrio. You are a gift waiting to be unwrapped by ankle patients. I am so glad I went to Duke Orthopaedics.
