Outstanding experience
On my breast surgeon’s recommendation, I chose to have reductions and lifts with Dr. McCarthy in conjunction with a lumpectomy for breast cancer surgery. I am incredibly pleased and impressed with the results, as well as with his kindness, empathy and meticulous follow through. I am grateful for him and could not recommend him more highly.

My only experience with Dr. McCarthy was him as my surgeon. I had a motor vehicle accident at the end of August. I can say this being my first ever broken bone and real surgery Dr. McCarthy made me feel so at ease. He had all my questions answered and the entire surgery laid out step by step. By the end I felt totally comfortable with putting my life in his and the surgery team hands. He is such a sweet and kinda hearted person, he personally agreed to call my mom after surgery so she wouldn't worry as she lives 3,000+ miles away, and she confirmed that he did. Not to mention he's quite the eye candy to have before being put under lol nothing like a good view going out if you don't end up returning. Kinda wish he was there when I came to as well.

James and his staff are always fantastic! I wish I could see him for all my medical needs. He truly cares about his patients as whole people (mind, body, spirit) rather than a single issue or surgery. I genuinely feel as though he cares more about me as a person than me as a patient, which is so rare to find these days. James is extremely knowledgeable, explains everything, asks if I have questions, lets me play an active role in my care, and always goes above and beyond.

Talked a good talk
In person, he was great- explained things well and put me at ease with his calm demeanour and detailed explainations. I left his office feeling hopeful about a surgery that no-one else in Oregon has experience performing. But then he ghosted completely. Over the past 6 months I have called and messaged him multiple times to try and get a plan in place for imaging and surgery. Despite his team apologising and telling me they will pass the messages along I have heard nothing at all- and am now pursuing out of state care instead. I lost a lot of trust in the system believing he could genuinely help me, but then to have zero communication and follow up from him? It’s disrespectful and inconsiderate. Even just a simple “I can’t help but here’s some resources” would have been appreciated

Excellent surgeon and bedside manner
I went to Dr McCarthy as a 2nd opinion for breast reconstruction and double mastectomy. He was awesome. He explained all my options in detail and showed me pix of his work. He spent over an hour with me. I definitely wanted him for my surgeries and I am so happy. He is calm, reassuring and listens. He is the best!

Dr. McCarthy is a true gem!
After a bad experience last year with my oncology surgeon, who lacked bedside manner, I decided that this time around—especially with the likelihood of undergoing a mastectomy—I needed a surgeon who is not only excellent at their job but also takes the time to know their patients and genuinely cares about their needs. I found that in Dr. McCarthy and his assistant, Ally. They are an amazing team! They never make you feel rushed, listen to all your concerns, and answer all your questions. As funny as it may sound, I actually look forward to my appointments and visiting with them both. I am very thankful to have had them on my team during such a scary and difficult time.

Double mastectomy
Horrible care from McCarthy and staff. Its been a year and a half and I'm still having problems. He cut ALL the muscles in my chest....I DO NOT RECOMMEND MCCARTHY
