Did not take time to even meet
Never once meet with me after being admitted to the hospital by the ER and then having stress test the next day. Was discharged by a nurse but could not provide any answers and Dr. Schafer never meet after reviewing stress test. Even if test were normal, with my family history of heart disease still would have been nice if he took 5 minutes to speak to me.

Dr. Schafer was not willing to spend time with us or answer our questions. The patient is not good in English and the doctor refused my translation duty. I have done translation for the Chinese communities for over 20 years and no doctor has ever rejected me. He got a hold with a 3rd party translator and was questioning her medical knowledge. It seems like he dislikes the Chinese. I tried to tell him to redo EKG because the patient has a lung issue and was having trouble breathing while testing (long walk to the office and wearing a mask). He refused and told us to go to emergency room due to high heart rate. We refused and went home to check the heart rate. His heart rate was perfectly fine. Went back to the office 2 days later to redo EKG and his heart rate was fine. We requested and changed doctor. I would not recommend him to anyone who wants to feel heard or comfortable with their medical care.

I had a heart attack and was in Sparrow Hospital. When Dr. Schafer came in he explained everything to me , was never in a rush and ask how I felt about my treatment. I was scared but after speaking with him I felt safe. I also believe he is as smart as can be. Just a very kind person.

Actually makes eye contact, not staring at the computer screen through the visit. Thorough explanations. Answers questions . Does not seem ready to rush to the next patient. Not particularly warm and fuzzy, but likeable and worthy of trust.

I saw Dr. Schafer for a cardiac work up after an emergency room visit for chest pain and episodes of vertigo as well as lightheadedness during a physical stress test. He was thorough in his explanations about possible causes as well as the tests he ordered for evaluation of my symptoms. He answered all my questions and never seemed rushed to finish up and move on as is the way with so many physicians. I do think he is some what shy and this may be misinterpreted as not caring.

Although he has the credentials he is short and does not listen to his patients. Somewhat condescending with his demeanor and did not even check in on me after ICD implant procedure. Overall he lacks the kind of attention people look for when suffering from heart disease. I am currently looking for a new cardiologist.
