Disappointing
Dr. Tan has been my primary care physician for many years. I have been so disappointed in her but continued to be her patient thinking she'd partner with me and be open to learning. Unfortunately, she is not. She is very uneducated on thyroid conditions. She also recommended that I (someone who is over 40 and has just 10 or so lbs to lose but also have metabolic conditions in family history) starve myself. She said the best way to lose weight is to not eat. I'm not referring to caloric deficit - to only eat a protein bar daily for a week or so. She also promoted a diet that consisted of highly processed fake food.

I have been going to Dr. Tan for over 10 years. She has always been very personable. I had back surgery last year, and she gave me the referral. She will never just offer pain medication, and for this I am grateful. She has given me good advise, and I will continue to see her as my primary.

I was scheduled for an 8:30 appt, was the first patient there at 8:20. The staff was not friendly, and I sat in the waiting room for 20 minutes without anyone acknowledging me. I went the the window to find out what was going on, and they said the doctor wasn’t even there.

I've been seeing Dr. Tan for about 8 years now. After dropping my families doctor for messing up my blood pressure meds constantly and being good with results I wasn't happy with, I went to Dr. Tan on a friends referral and with her knowledge of meds. She changed my meds from 2 different pills to one. Don't go to her if you just want a pill fix. She will always be looking at long term effects of your meds and fixing them to do the least damage to your body. I like that she tells it like it is

I have been nothing but disappointed each time I have seen Dr Tan, it tried to get in. She hasn’t poor bedside manner, insults patients and is often on vacation. When she is out for weeks at a time, her poorly trained office staff do not refer to any other doctor, however just send you to urgent care. I have left 3 messages attempting to be seen in the last two weeks for fairly urgent matter- zero calls back.

Frustrated patient in TN – Jan 31, 2019
×Post a ResponseAre you Dr. Tan?
I question the validity of medical judgment of Dr. Tan after several interactions I had after being a patient for several years. I left her practice. The nursing & office staff were always inadequately trained & clueless is how I would describe them. I just received a notice from a collection agency for a bill that I tried to pay in person, and on the phone at least twice, each time being told there was a mistake on the account on their end and I owed nothing. That is pretty much says it all!

Dr. Tan is a horrible, uncaring doctor. My child asked Dr. Tan for a referral to a psychiatrist for depression, but she refused. Dr. Tan wanted to treat my child instead of providing a referral. As a result, my child tried to commit suicide. Dr. Tan has a problem with referring patients to other doctors who are specialized in the field in which her patients need help. WORST doctor EVER!!

I've been seeing Dr. Tan for around 5 years. When I first saw her, I was having headaches, but after she put me on blood pressure medicine, the headaches were gone. Wow, she's smart, I decided. She is a kind soul and very intelligent. If you want a doctor who is self-impressed and always "knows" what's wrong before he comes in the room, she's not for you. But if you want a doctor who listens, cares, and will persevere to find a way to help you when others haven't, try her. I'm glad I did.

I am new to the state of Tennessee. I originally researched & selected a doctor. After trying the internal medicine doctor ( and being really dissatisfied) a friend told me about Dr. Tan. Sometimes there is a little wait but I have never felt rushed with Dr. Tan. She really studies my lab results & makes appropriate recommendations. She's very knowledgeable & current with medications on the market today as well as alternate non-medicine solutions. Her office staff is very kind and helpful.

I've been seeing Dr Tan since 2007. She caught diseases fast for me and referred me to two specialists that cured me in my darkest hours. She's fast to act. I'm in her office now and she saw me in less than 5 minutes! She caught vitamin deficiencies and she takes a holistic approach mixed with traditional medicine. She takes time to get to know you as a patient. I refer her to everyone!

Quick to prescribe medicines instead of truly listening to what the patient is saying, and not willing to dig any deeper to get to a root cause. Spends very little time getting to know a patient and comes off as aloof. Quick to put down a patient's thoughts or questions and also condescending about any type of alternative treatments. Surprised she came so highly recommended. Office staff is rude and uncooperative.

This office is by far the worst I have ever been to. Dr.Tan is unprofessional & consistently running late. Her idea of fixing an issue is prescribing blood work & medication. She never truly gets to the root of any problem, just slaps a band-aid on it. An expensive band-aid at that. Her office staff is rude & lazy. Not to mention they have zero knowledge of what goes on in the office. I gave them 5 chances & they blew every single one of them. They also NEVER return phone calls(even urgent ones)

She is a nice lady and cares. However, she tends to be dismissive of patients' opinions about what is wrong, and perhaps too quick to prescribe medicines. She does not emphasize nutrition very much, and it seems to me that she overemphasizes medicines' effectiveness and de-emphasizes possible side effects. Her office seems to not be managed well and not always nice; prescriptions have to be called in more than once and results from imaging scans sent to office are not necessarily looked at.

Tan is knowledge about basic medical knowledge...but when faced with something new that she is unfamiliar with she dimisses it as unproven She would do well to update her education to be aligned with current published research so she could understand and help her patients in a better way.
