Hip replacement surgery
Total hip replacement anterior approach completed on both hips; left in December, right 6 months later in June. Dr Clark, Brenda and staff were very professional, explained pre-surgery, post surgery and what to expect thoroughly, etc., and answered our questions. I am very pleased with the results. I now have mobility and range of motion that I have not had in years ... and no pain! Followed Dr Clark, Brenda, and Physical Therapy instructions, and recovery time was minimal. I highly recommend Dr Clark and staff. Thank you, Dr Clark, Brenda and staff.

Failed ACL surgery
My daughter had ACL surgery with Dr. Clark. The first week after being cleared to go back to sports she tore her acl again. He did not want to do anything and his assistant told us to go to “ a center of higher level of care“. Our therapist recommended to reach out to Dr. Serrano’s office. From day 1 we were very satisfied with his care, professionalism and follow-up. His team is excellent. He performed a new acl surgery on my daughter’s knee. Almost a year after she is back to sports. She has no pain and her knee feels great. I would recommend him to anyone. We have been blessed.

Not a great experience
Did get me in fast and other staff were pretty good. When Dr. Clark came in, he asked me one question. And I felt very rushed in trying to explain my pain. He told me what he thought I had wrong with my hip, but had no further explanation to what it even meant. Briefly said it probably won’t be a long term disability. Did not give me any options for pain management unless I mentioned it. Very short and felt very dismissive. Referred me to Iowa City, just didn’t seem interested because it is not a problem he usually deals with. Told me to vocalize what was wrong, even thought I wasn’t done explaining, but when I brought out a list to remember everything I needed to say, started to dismiss me. I do not have a problem advocating for myself. Was not a welcoming environment for listening and did not make me feel heard at all. Very frustrating. Just would not recommend.

Had a total knee replacement doneby Dr. Clark. Everything went pretty well except my lower leg is angled out slightly. Everyone else can tell except Brenda, who thinks it looks great. I never did see Dr. Clark after the surgery so was unable to discuss it with him. Not sure what could be done, though. If I have him do my other knee, I will make sure to request it to be straight. Makes it a little difficult to walk correctly.

Left hip replacment - Direct Anterior Approach
Dr Clark replaced my left hip using the Direct Anterior Approach. Also used the MAKO Robotic Assisted Arm during my surgery. Could not be happier.! Never really had any pain, simply stiffness and soreness. Out of hospital same day. I used a walker for 8 days and switched to a cane. I am now 3 weeks post op, and doing great. Thanks to Dr Clark and his very impressive Staff!

Phenomenal surgeon
My father came in with knee pain that he has been dealing with for years. He went to Dr. Clark and he got him all squared away. He was hoping not to have to have a knee replacement and Dr Clark suggested a scope. He's had multiple surgerys and typically doesn't fair well immediately after. The surgery went extremely well and he was up and moving around faster than he ever had before. 10 out of 10 would recommend him for anything orthopedic related.

Failed ACL surgery
Not only he does not have bedside manner but he does not want to take care of his complications. My daughter re-tore her acl the very next day after being release to sports. His nurse practitioner told us that we had to go to a tertiary center. Seriously? is he the UNI doctor?

Complete lack of integrity
I am a former ATC. Unfortunately, I have witnessed his "methods". Please stay away from him. Not sure why UNI still allows him to get anywhere close to the athletes. Terrible human being that only cares about himself.

Knee Evaluation and Treatment
I had knee surgery for a complex torn meniscus in Florida approximately 17 months ago. I have had knee pain ever since the surgery and difficulty getting up from a sitting position if I sat for any prolonged period of an hour or more. My husband recently had a successful rotator surgery with Dr. Clark so I decided to have Dr. Clark evaluate my knee for me. (I was feeling pretty discouraged at that time). He told me I didn’t need a total knee yet. I still have a thin line of cartilage. He recommended Physical Therapy. After an evaluation of my knee flexibility and strength, my physical therapist Oz started me on a program to improve my core strength and knee strength as well as improving my flexibility. For the first time in 18 months, my knee is pain free. I have better strength, balance and flexibility than I have had in years. I am so grateful to Dr. Clark and the whole P.T. team.

Rotator Cuff Surgery
I’m an active 74 year old male who previously had two rotator cuff surgeries- one on each shoulder years ago. (So you know that I am speaking from experience). Just recently, Dr. Clark successfully performed a third rotator cuff surgery to my left shoulder along with a bicep tendon repair. A few days after surgery, I started Physical Therapy with Taylor in charge of my rehabilitation. Taylor knew exactly how far to take me at every step of the rehab process. He frequently discussed the healing process and cautioned me not to do more than he requested. If you are in need of an excellent orthopedic surgeon and physical therapy department, I highly recommend Dr. Clark.

Dr. Clark has the skills for a gret outcome
All the staff were very caring. Special recognition for Dawn, Brenda and Jesse. The method of hip replacement that Dr. Clark does had me on my feet almost immediately. Was doing very well in a reasonably short time.

Hip replacement
Only Dr. in the area that does a anterior approach hip replacement surgery. This method leaves all the muscles and conective tissue in tact. This allows for a quicker recovery and better overall recovery. 3 month out and I feel like a new man. So if you're looking for the Dr. with that addictive personality who will be your best friend this isn't your guy. But if you want a Dr. That knows what hes doing and will do a great job this is the guy. Got my life back. Couldn't be happier. Thank you so much Dr. Clark and staff.

Two total hip replacements in 8 months
Dr. Clark and his team have changed the quality of my life! Having been unable to walk without deep hip joint pain for several years, I was urged by family members to see what could be done. Both hips had arthritic conditions that indicated total joint replacements. In January 2023 I had surgery on the left hip; the right had been replaced in May of 2022. Now, just a few short weeks later in February ‘23, I am thrilled to report full movement without pain or disability. It really is a miracle procedure. Dr. Clark was even able to lengthen this left leg about 3/8 of an inch to enable full upright posture and walking without a shoe insert or cane, using the anterior approach. Hallelujah! For the first time in many, many years I am able to move freely in daily life. I feel about 15 years younger—from 74 to 60–and it is truly a blessing. I highly recommend Dr. Clark and his amazing surgical team. Wish I had done this about five years earlier. Don’t wait if you are walking with pain!

Hard to believe
Broke my arm. Dr. Clark was on call and told the local ED that he could not handle my injury because it was "too complex" and I should go to UI for further care. After 5 hours, I made it down to Iowa City. Sadly, the trauma surgeon told me that my injury was not bad at all. In fact, he said to me that "even in the third world they could take care of that injury and the initial surgeon (in this case Dr. Clark) was being lazy and did not want to take care of my arm". It is terrible that we have a doctor like him in the area. Furthermore, it is very sad to learn he takes care of athletes at the university of northern Iowa.
