Dr Emerson is pleasant, but her apparent lack of interest or engagement with her patients can have a devastating consequences. While I was her patient, she not only ignored tumor markers steadily rising over 3 months—a clear sign of disease progression—but blew off my repeated concerns about it on four separate occasions. She is very difficult to contact. No phone calls ever and emails are answered by her surrogates, never by her. Patients are told to expect up to 3 working days wait for a response; I waited 6 days for her to respond to questions about a significant change in my treatment. She was unaware of some test results in my medical record, and I had to do an end run around her to get the urgently needed tests and imaging that showed my disease had progressed. If you are assigned to Dr Emerson, insist on another provider. Your life is at stake.

Dr Jenna Emerson: do not use!
Dr Jenna Emerson: "Complete and utter failure as a gynecological oncologist in all ways. Disregard of patient’s feelings and concerns, forgot lab and test orders several times, the patient had to scramble around the system to get orders for the basic cancer tests, some test results have still not been given to the patient, doctor had to be reminded of status and next steps, neglected to follow up on many things, told the patient nothing else could be done (!) when surgery and different chemotherapy drugs were initiated by a new doctor and definitely reduced the disease, coordination and communication is left to the patient (which is difficult given that the patient is sick with cancer), sat on results of initial diagnosis for days while the patient had the results through the electronic medical records system and waited for a diagnosis of cancer with terrible stress, and then received a call only by phone (not even Zoom) saying “Oh yeah you have cancer and it’s as bad as it gets.”

Dr Jenna Emerson: do not use! – Jun 06, 2022

Dr Emerson’s actions demonstrate a lack of interest, engagement, and common sense that can have a devastating effect on oncology patients. In my case, she not only ignored tumor markers rising over 3 months—a clear sign of disease progression—but blew off my stated and written concerns four times. She is very difficult to contact and does not return emails. No phone calls ever, and patient portal emails are answered by her surrogates, never by her. Patients are told to expect up to a 3 working days wait for a response; I waited 6 days for a response to a significant change in my treatment. I found out about a change in my diagnosis through my electronic medical record. Because I had an appointment with her 10 days later, she indicated that it wasn’t necessary for us to speak before then. She was unaware of some test results in my record, and I had to do an end run around her to get urgently needed tests and imaging. Her sole suggestion after being asked about specific strategies to reduce chance of recurrence of my rare cancer was to eat a well balanced diet and get enough exercise. Dr. Emerson’s lack of concern for patients as individuals and hit-or-miss follow through means they’re on their own for coordinating care and getting needed auxiliary services and treatments, a needless additional stressor during what for most women will be the most stressful time of their lives. If you are assigned to Dr. Emerson, insist on a different care provider. Your life may depend on it.
