I supported my dad, who is 85 and has multiple myeloma, during a recent stay at Lutheran Hospital. Unfortunately, my dad was Dr. Archard’s patient for a few days. One of the reviewers here described Dr. Archard as a self-important, pompous jerk. I would wholeheartedly agree with that statement and add that he exudes a “Doctor as God” mentality, seemingly viewing every question as a personal affront and responding with arrogant hostility. When I asked Dr. Archard why my dad wasn’t feeling better after three days of treatment, he angrily impugned me and indicated my question was ludicrous. He clearly perceived my question as some sort of personal challenge and demeaned and shamed me for for having the audacity to ask it. Dr. Archard also insisted my dad was doing quite well, and he was hell-bent on discharging him the next day. The next day, my dad’s oncologist strongly advised that he not be discharged due to extreme neutropenia. Beware of Dr. Archard!

In the beginning Dr. Archard seemed to be knowledgeable and caring but in reality he’s a self important, pompous jerk. He let me know that he believed he knew more about me than my Hematologist, my Gastroenterologist, my Cardiologist and my PCP of 35 years. Beware - he enjoys demeaning his patients!
