At first appointment I went for a second opinion for severe back pain I had had for a year. He came into the room before I had even seen a nurse for id and vitals. I tried to tell him why I was there and he told me not to talk. He wasin the room for less than 5 minutes, asked me to get 3 tests and left. Then the nurse told me he was running behind and trying to catch up. Apparently my time, money and I are not important. It took several weeks to be able for me to schedule the 3 tests and each person who gave me the tests said the doctor would call me. No calls from the doctor. My return visit was scheduled 6 months later. The scheduler thought that was too long and managed to find an earlier appointment in two and a half months. At that appointment Dr. Barr told me about the results of two of the tests and then asked why I didn't have the third one. When I told him I did, he looked again and found it. More, but not enough room. THE SUPPORT STAFF IS WONDERFUL!

What went wrong
I had an appt with Dr. Barr. I live 3 1/2 hours away. I had to get a hotel and needed someone to drive me. The office called to cancel my appt stating MD was sick. I explained hotel and that I was passed cancellation time. I was told by his office they would try to find another provider. Office called me back to say they couldn't get me in with anyone and that Dr. Barr didn't want to see me. I responded I thought he was sick and then they told me he was seeing patients on the day of my appt just not me. Then the office person said your appt was "just" for a second opinion. I responded: I have had 2 neurosurgeons tell me I need ACDF surgery and 1. I had not made a decision where I was having the surgery. 2. That I was looking for possible alternatives to having the surgery. I was so disappointed and felt like I was unimportant my health was not a priority to them. How devastating.

My husband was becoming paralysed from the waist down, in a short period of time. We had to have the surgery immediatly, in order to prevent this. With the surgery there was still a huge chance, that he would be paralysed immediatly after surgery. Dr Barr made us feel very comfortable from day one. We has previously spoken with anothe neurosurgeon, and felt Dr Barr was taking more precaution, to make sure my husband did not wake up paralysed. I cannot say enough about Dr Barr. He was in the hospital every morning to check on my husband including Saturday. There were times that we saw him twice in a day during that time. Also, he is the only doctor that I have seen that cares enough to call you back himself when needed... and to yes just to check on my husbands process. We live in another state and the hospital staff there was also very impressed with Dr Barr and his team. If you are looking for a caring expert in this field then Dr Barr should be your choice.

Dr Barr is a humble, sweet human being, and an absolutely amazing neurosurgeon. His surgery left me absolutely pain free, with no need for the first pain pill!! Two levels were operated on, deflation and laminotomy. He was very patient with me and my family, and took a lot of time explaining what was going to be done. Five stars isn’t enough.

Dr. Barr performed a posterior cervical laminectomy with fusion and instrumentation on my neck 3/2/16. I think he did an excellent job. I had pain at first, as you would expect, but my recovery went smoothly. Dr. Barr gave me frequent checkups with x-rays, and I recovered completely with no problems. Dr. Barr was always professional and kind. I recommend him highly. If I were to need spinal surgery again, I would definitely seek him to be my surgeon.

Would listen to the complaints of pain my husband had after fusion and not do anything about. He is still in pain today. Would not give him a rating for workman's comp. Had to go to another doctor for a rating that was in with workman's comp so didn't get a good rating. 2 years later and he still can not work and is in chronic pain. The staff is the worst. They don't keep the workman's comp nurse out of the room for privacy. The women in the front office are also nasty and no help.

Dr. Barr was great from start to finish. My back was injured in a car accident, requiring surgery. He explained the entire process to me and my wife several times, ensuring we had no questions. At first, he was going to try to allow me to heal without surgery. This just shows that he won't do it unless it's 100% necessary. Complications arose and he did what was medically necessary. I knew I was in good hands.
