Not going back to this doctor
Doctor Wood was very rude. When I expressed I was worried as I was not seeing the eye charts as clearly as I used to on earlier visits, he made fun of my age and said in a mocking tone, 'What else would I expect at almost 60? Was I expecting to see the same as when I was 40?'!I was speechless and was very hurt with his comment. In a few seconds after that comment, I opened my mouth and was starting to ask a question, but he was already on his way out of the room! He tapped me on my shoulder, said 'Bye', and walked out of the room!So I was unable to ask him any questions on the new prescription he wrote up. I left my appointment that day, not knowing where I stood on my eye health, from the previous year's eye exam. Everyone in his office at the front desk is as rude as he is as well.I am not going back to his clinic. It is not okay for a doctor to speak to their patients in this manner! Unacceptable.Hope this review helps some of you.

Excellent Doctor
He was the third ophthalmologist I had been to and the first to give my condition a name. I was relieved to have a diagnosis even tho the only treatment is more surgery. He is reserved and business like but approachable and friendly. His staff were super—very friendly and helpful. All explained what they were doing and why. I have never had such a thorough eye exam. I am transferring to his practice. I was very impressed and consider myself very lucky to be under his care.

Caught my cancerous lesions, twice!
Dr. Wood recognized cancerous lesions at a very early stage and referred me to a specialist for the surgery. The specialist said it was remarkable that he caught these cancerous lesions at such an early stage and that I was very lucky. He is very focused and thorough with each exam and has always provided excellent advice.

Outstanding doctor and office staff
Went with my husband for his app't with Dr. Wood. Both the doctor and staff were outstanding...most comprehensive doctor visit, for any reason, I've seen since being in N.C. The visit took 3 hours, with explanations of existing conditions....and no push for surgery since it "wouldn't make a significant difference". Alex (girl) did a thorough and patient eye exam prior to seeing Dr. Wood. She was also great.

My kind of professional
Dr Wood has been my ophthalmologist for about 15 years. He has performed cataract surgery on both eyes. In both cases, the procedure was highly successful and free of complications. I am a big fan of this physician. I first saw him when a large black floater appeared in my eye one morning and, frankly, scared me. I phoned what was, at that time, my regular ophthalmology practice , but they could not see me for days. I phoned Dr Wood's office, and they set up an appointment for that afternoon. As things turned out, the floater was not a problem, and I was relieved within hours, thanks to Dr Wood. He is friendly but business-like, and that's fine with me. He is always ready to answer questions.

The lens inserted during cataract surgery left the vision at 20/60, although I erroneously assumed it would correct to 20/20, because friends had told me that was their experience. When I questioned Dr. Wood about it, he claimed I had asked him to match the vision in the eye to the vision in the other eye. That was NOT TRUE. I suspect he simply wanted to continue selling me eyeglasses in his optical shop. Friends told me it sounded like a malpractice case, but I'm sure he had made notes in my file that would substantiate his story.

I have just had cataract surgeries, one on each eye. What had initially been a dread – had turned out to be a painless experience. Fortunately, the choice of a doctor to perform the surgery is a no-brainer for me, Dr. Wood has been my ophthalmologist for over 20 years. The combination of the lens and his skills has allowed me to be free of eye glasses (except for reading those small letters, for which I need reading glasses). Thank you to Dr. Wood and staff for providing such excellent care.

After a bad experience with the first cataract surgery (left eye) due to an unexpected, uncommon problem with my eye it took me over a year to get up the courage to have the cataract removed in the other eye. I didn't want to return to the same dr. A friend recommended Dr. Wood. Even though there was the same problem in my right eye, Dr. Wood was prepared and able to deal with it. I read and drive without glasses. Thank you Dr. Wood and all the friendly, caring staff.

I know several former patients of Dr. Wood who have the same opinion of him as I do...He's rushed, uncommunicative, and lacks sensitivity. Difficult to understand the many 5-star ratings on this site.

Dr. Wood was great during my emergency visits. I was able to schedule an office visit on the same day that I experienced severe pain in my left eye from some, then, unknown source. I was also scheduled for subsequent visits until my pain had subsided, and my "abrasion" had healed. The staff was great, and took very good care of me.

Dr. Wood came in early to see me after I called with a vision problem. (I was not even a patient of his) He gave me a complete examination and determined I had stroke and contacted my physician and the ER to get me into care immediately. I truly appreciate the professionalism and care from the technicians, staff and Dr. Wood.

Getting LASIK was one of the best decisions I have made, and it was certainly worth every penny. Dr. Wood and his staff were extremely professional in their care and walked me through each step in the process. They truly made it a stress free process. I couldn’t believe how fast the procedure was completed and how short the recovery time was. I have recommended Dr. Wood to family members and would recommend him to anyone looking to have eye correction surgery done.

Chapel Hill Ophthalmology provides great care and customer service. I've been going there for a few years now and I am very happy with their service. Dr. Wood and their staff are great! They are friendly and very helpful. I recently spent a lot of time dropping in to ask questions about contacts and glasses. The desk staff was very patient to review costs and insurance with me. The opticians helped a lot too!

I moved to the area several months ago. I heard about Dr. Wood from a friend. I must admit I was a little hesitant to see Dr. Wood after I read some negative reviews from few patients here. But I am glad that I've made the right choice. Dr. Wood is a wonderful eye surgeon who is very concerned about his patients, is very personable and explains everything so you understand what is involved. His surgery results are outstanding and exceed our expectations.

Dr. Wood has been my Dr for many years. I thought when I first me him that he was lacking in "bedside manner". I soon realized that he only seemed to be distracted when he was thinking of how best to help. He will spend as much time as needed if you talk to him. Very knowledgeable and skilled Dr and surgeon. Recently had cataract surgery both eyes and total satisfaction. He has a great technical staff that he relies on with confidence, as do I. Some front desk staff could be more friendly.
