Best doctor I ever had.
Dr. Herbst is the first doctor to ever LISTEN to me. She also ran a full panel of labs and spent a lot if time for proper diagnosis and treatment. She provided excellent follow up exams and is by far, the best doctor I have ever had. I love her!

I am a rehabilitation therapist who contacted Dr. Herbst regarding a mutual patient. She is one of the most caring compassionate physicians I’ve spoken to in a long time. I highly recommend her just based off of the knowledge she displayed and her amazing character. Wishing everybody the best of luck in their healing, and I hope that this review helps you make a good choice.

Telemedicine visit in March. Worst decesion of my life. I have been in extreme pain for 6 months. Dr. Herbst never returned call. Will not take responsiblity. Office manager requested that I provide Dr. Herbst with a letter from physician that her recommendation caused severe nerve pain. My doctors refused to get involved..doctors are not going to state another doctor caused harm... I can not take any medication for nerve pain because of side effects. Dr. Herbst did not bother to ask for Previous medical records. She did not see me and telemedicine visit was over the phone..not the internet Unfortunately telehealth visits were allowed because of covid. Unfortunately my visit was during the pandemic. Terrible diagnostician. 2nd review

SHE IS GREAT, SMART, PERSONABLE AND TIMELY. YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE HER ONLY PATIENT. I AM CONCERNED THAT SHE IS RUNNING. SHE LEFT SAN DIEGO VA, UCLA, TUCSON AND NOW IN DURHAM. WHY ALL THE RUNNING?

I flew to see Dr. Herbst from Oregon. What a refreshing experience with an extremely knowledgeable doctor who knows lipedema well!! We have only 2 doctors in Oregon who know a wee bit about lipedema, the trip to get a proper diagnosis from a very kind and caring doctor was well worth the trip! I may not like what my diagnosis is but I now have the hope and knowledge of knowing how to best take care of myself. Thank you Dr. Herbst!

I was a patient in one of Dr. Herbst’s research studies. She performed a biopsy on me and later did liposuction on my body. I got infected by her procedures. I later found out that she did not use sterile procedures and did not even wash her hands before putting on sterile gloves. Please be careful about seeing this doctor. Like other women with lipedema I thought she was a saint. I fear for other women who go to her for biopsies. She is not properly trained to do biopsies and liposuction. She not only does not know how to do sterile procedures, but does not know how to properly suture the incision she made. I found out that she does not document harmful reactions to her clinical trials. Please be careful!

Excellent doctor! She is a world-renowned expert in fat and endocrine disorders. I see her yearly for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and lipodema. It can be hard to get an appointment with her, as she does research work as well, but she was the only doctor to offer up practical advice and acknowledgement of my rare fat disorder.

As a Nurse practitioner myself, I knew I had Dercums disease but was unable to get a diagnosis. I traveled to Arizona to see Dr. Herbst and was diagnosed immediately. Unfortunately, most doctors didn't want to follow her guidelines. Since I live in California, it was a struggle to get any doctor to help me. Dr. Herbst is at the top when it comes to knowledge and the newest treatment. We all know that their is no miracle pill. Dr. Herbst promises hope and experience. No one promises a cure.

Dr. Herbst has been my Dercum’s Disease specialist for about 10 years now. She is knowledgeable, kind, and compassionate. She listens and truly does her best. She is a researcher as well. I like that she will initially try more natural medications/supplements before going straight to expensive pharmaceuticals. Because there is no hard fast cure for DD you have to be willing to adjust treatment plans. I have found a reasonable plan and have been able to manage my disease symptom better.

I went to great amount of trouble & expense to fly to AZ to see Dr. Herbst after being on her waiting list for over a year, I was pushed off on her assistant--a student who could barely speak English. Saw dr, for small amt of time later but offered very little ideas. Promised RX wasn't given until month later after many phone calls to office & requests on her port. Med. didn't work & I ended up in the hospital for over 6 weeks. She is a joke.

I am grateful to Dr. Herbst for finally "officially" diagnosing me with Dercum's disease. However, her "miracle cure" of taking a medical food (pill) once a day and I would be back to working out and playing hockey was bogus. Vasculera is a medical food that is not covered by medical insurance companies and it says right on the packaging that any claims are not backed by the FDA. Well, that seems for good reason as it is not a cure or even an effective treatment for people with Dercums.

I will never, ever, go back to this place! I was told by my regular provider that I am really type 1. They told me no, that I am type 2. I got a new endocrinologist who ordered GAD antibodies test. Yes, I am type 1 ... just as my regular provider indicated.

Dr. Herbst is an endocrinologist who also specializes in adipose tissue disorders. After I'd seen a dozen physicians who could not identify my condition, I traveled across country for an appointment with Dr. Herbst. She immediately was able to identify my condition as a rare disease and provided explanations, recommendations, and answered all of my questions. She was knowledgeable, patient, compassionate, and caring.
