Dr. Lauren Destefano, MD

I had 3 total surgeries with Dr. DeStefano to remove all of my cancerous tumor in my breast. Despite the recommendation being mastectomy for my complicated situation, Dr. D listened and understood how important it was for me to keep my breasts and re-excised two additional times to get clear margins. She's kind and attentive. The nurses in her office are all incredible and so loving and Adri at the front desk is a rockstar! The office responds to requests and messages quickly, are knowledgeable and have gone above and beyond to get me to the right place (even outside the scope of their jobs at times).

My primary dr referred me to Dr. Destefano due to pain in my left breast. I made an appointment to see her in August and was seen by her nurse practitioner Nisha. I was not notified ahead of my appointment that I wouldn't be able to see the dr - in fact, Dr. Destefano was not even in the office that day. After a breast exam, Nisha said she did not feel anything and suggested that I wear a bra without wire and cut back on caffeine/chocolate intake. I reassured her that my caffeine/chocolate intake is so extremely minimal that this can't be the cause of pain in my breast. She said she would make an appointment for me to see Dr. Destefano at the end the year. I had a breast MRI in October and the office did not call me to review results. After multiple emails and phone calls, Nisha just said "it's benign" but did not provide any helpful information. What, exactly, is benign? Was there a finding, if so where was it and was it? What is the size? She called me and could not answer any of these questions but instead asked if I cut back caffeine and chocolate. SO FRUSTRATING! It is now end of November and I called to let the office know that I'm still experiencing pain and would like to speak with Dr. Destefano. Much to my surprise, she does not speak over the phone (not even to review results?). In fact, the receptionist Adri let me know that since I'm not a cancer patient and do not require surgery, that Dr. Destefano would not see me and that they'll be cancelling my appointment. Again, I've been waiting for my appointment since August. Why did it take them so long to let me know? Why aren't they suggesting next steps? I'm so disappointed in the lack of care from this office and got the serious run around with no real help or information at all. The only person who was helpful was the receptionist Adri. I would certainly not recommend Dr. Destefano or her nurse Nisha after this experience and how much time they've wasted.

Her staff are very caring and loving and make you feel welcomed. Dr. DeStefano never handled me roughly, always asked for my permission before touching me, and is honest when speaking with you. She gets straight to the point and at no time was she rushing, despite me being late, and talks to you in a non-demeaning way.
