Dr. Blake saw my husband, Fred French, on Oct. 4. He was very matter of fact with my husbands back issue, but decided to do another CT Scan. After Dr. Blake saw the scan, he told my husband that he needed to go to St. Louis to one of the big hospitals for surgery. We gave him the ok to find one that would take my husband and found an ambulance to take him immediately to St Louis University Medical Center. They took him in and did an MRI at 1:45 AM and he was in surgery by 11:00 AM on the 5th of October. He now has two rods and 6 Screws in his back and is doing inpatient Rehab! Thank You Dr. Blake for being so helpful on our back situation. Your help was greatly appreciated! Fred French Family

Arrogant and incompetent
My mother has some pretty serious health problems, and was recently taken by ambulance to Saint Francis due to extremely low blood pressure, passing out, could not longer stand, an obstructed bowel, and incontinence. Despite her poor health, these were all new symptoms she had developed over the last week. Martin Blake was the ER doctor, and dismissed all my mother's symptoms as general aging issues, despite the fact they had all occurred over the span of a week. He refused to give her any treatment and sent her home, where ahe lives alone. She has since fallen, and has a serious infection. She should have been admitted the first time she was at the ER, but Martin Blake was too arrogant and incompetent to be bothered with treating her.

Very personable and friendly
My husband saw Dr Blake in the ER yesterday. He listened well, explained the prognosis and made sure that we understood and didn't have anymore questions before we left. We will definitely be back to St Francis ER with any future needs. Overall a great experience and helpful, friendly and professional staff.

Bad Doc
My elderly dad was taken by ambulance to this ER bc, in home, he choked on water & was slurring in speech. He was also hallucinating but we knew that was from a new med. This dr comes in & tells us CT showed no strokes; hallucinations from new meds. I asked about the slurring, he told us dad answered his questions clearly & just sent us home. No caring/concern. We didn’t meet his/hospital’s preset criteria for getting past ER. AND, dad has a history of strokes. After a week of being bedridden, still choking on sips of water, he began to run temp. We took back to same ER with more problems along with stroke symptoms, but received different dr. Another CT did not show stroke. BUT, he was admitted to hospital & MRI was done that DID show stroke. A week set back in dad’s health bc of this dr.

Bad Day Doc??
This guy! Wow. I went in for help saying I had an obstruction in my esophagus. Not able to eat anything solid for two days without choking and vomiting. Went to my reg doc the day before to be told I had GERD and give anti acid meds. After choking a couple more times went to ER for HELP. I said I wasn’t leaving until someone looked down my throat. He said “I don’t do that” told him what I had tried to eat he said “don’t eat that”. Said I felt unsafe to be alone if were to eat or drink he said “don’t be alone”. He was extremely uncaring, disrespectful and had a superior attitude. Finally after telling him I wasn’t leaving until I got help he made a couple of phone calls that resulted in a procedure to remove an obstruction. He didn’t examine me at all, did not even touch me. Just stood with his arms crossed and listened then made snarky comments. Burnt out much?

I had right sided facial paralysis that occurred over the course of an afternoon. Dr. Blake and team were extremely attentive, kind, and quick at getting to a proper diagnosis. I am an employee at SFMC and I felt as if I was well cared for as one of “the family”. Dr Blake led the team and personally started my IV fluids when it felt like I was going to pass out.. He did this while alleviating my anxiety during a very stressful and scary time.. I am very grateful to everyone that helped out during my one night stay.. I would also like to thank Amy Parenteau, Brooke, Fred from respiratory and the RN’s who I don’t know their names that helped out in the ER that evening .

I saw Dr. Blake in the ER recently at SFMC. I'm usually shy about going to ER, thinking, me being in my 40's shouldn't be there, even though I have chronic and possibly serious issues. But that's not the case with Dr. Blake, he had a great bedside manner. He didn't treat me like I shouldn't be there. He also tried everything he could do to find out what was causing my problem. But, he couldn't his hands are tied to try anything else. He did treat another problem caused by it. Thank you.
