Absolutely amazing!
He's the best of the best in my eyes. Amazing bedside manner, great at explanations for patients. He's very thorough and caring. If he could take care of all my problems, I'd go to him for anything. He said my brain was beautiful!

Needs
He really needs to listen to his patients and stop being dismissive. I was very sick and scared and he made me feel like I was faking or exaggerating. I was having trouble walking normally, weak, extremely fatigued, trouble swallowing, trouble concentrating and so many other symptoms. He kept telling me it’s probably a virus. He just guessed as he didn’t do many tests to figure anything out. Turns out I had Lyme disease and other tick borne illnesses. I had to go to a functional medicine dr and pay out of pocket to get better. But, I’d pay any price to not have to see this guy again.

Zero stars…… still in disbelief
January visit to ER for severe weakness in legs and arms, but what felt to me like paralysis and terrified. Could not stand at all. Many previous months of worsening neurological symptoms-loss of balance, serious cognitive decline, couldn’t hold cup or pen or squeeze lemon, severe sudden memory loss and confusion, inability to do simple tasks, couldn’t drive, facial palsy, numb face and back, body jerks and twitching, pressure headaches, severe constant dizziness, BP drop of 30-50points from my normal, severe ongoing breathing difficulties, severe fatigue- slept 18-20 hrs for months, (still can barely hold head up must wear brace)I was insulted repeatedly in front of his “audience” of 6 medical students who giggled as he mocked me in a cartoonish sarcastic voice. Told me all my tests were normal. Told my daughter I “was faking” Bed,wheelchair, walker since (8 months). Turns out CAEBV w LPD. Hospital record shows, POSITIVE reactivation-he told me NEG. (Lied?) PET for Lymphoma next week.

there are no words apalling enough for my visit
Dismissed, told that a possible childhood abuse was responsible for my imaginary symptoms even though theres no memory of abuse, refused to contact mayo for 2nd opinion, doesn't understand why any testing was ordered as there is nothing wrong yet next neuro saw a tone change and a nystagmus. 2yrs later finally dx with a rare hereditary neurodegenerative disease. I expected better from someone who is supposed to be so great. Never have i ever been treated so badly and its sad to think how many that don't know to question or to seek a 2nd, 3rd, 10th opinion until they get heard and answers and someone who listens and takes them seriously. We are fighting for our lives and we are getting bullied by those that CHOSE to help heal others. How does this help. Do they feel better because its not a fail if you don't try to diagnose and get it wrong. Do Better. We can all do better than this.

Wonderful caring Doctor
Meet Dr. Hammer upon admission to hospital for excruciating headache and extremely high blood pressure. He put me on BP medicine and a steroid. Felt better almost immediately. Thank you Dr. Hammer for your caring and a quick remedy to my condition. Would very highly recommend him.

Needed to find Neurologist and he was the only one I could find to see me soon because of headaches. I glad I did find him. Even though he was forty five minutes away I decided to see him. He did not disappoint me. He took his time to explain things and answered all questions. He put me on medication and a week after he called me at home. I was shocked because not to many doctors do that

Dr. Hammer treated my Mom over the past 14 years after she suffered a massive stroke and brain surgery. We found him to be extremely knowledgeable, compassionate and always remember us among his hundreds of patients. My Mom always looked forward to going for her follow up with Dr. Hammer. He was a complete Blessing to us.

Told me that there was nothing structurally wrong with when in fact I really needed major neurosurgery. Refused to order an MRI. Label me as “ all in my head” but neurosurgeon said that I within an inch of being dead or in a wheelchair. Didn’t diagnose several other issues that a neurologist should have easily found. After having his diagnosis haunt me and follow me I finally found a brilliant neurologist who takes excellent care of me, but it took 8 yrs. The affects and trauma still cause pain.

I was expecting so much more compassion from this doctor. I was not there for any other reason other than being terrified. He made me leave in tears. Didn't listen. Assumed. And made me feel like it was all in my head. I have moved on with someone else that found my diagnosis. Thanks for nothing.

As far as his staff goes, I have no clue why people did not give them 5 solid stars. Maybe it's the fact that you can't please everyone. However, they are so wickedly efficient at their jobs. They do not make better teams than this. There is a reason the best neurologist in the country maybe world hired them. They are the unsung heroes that makes everything work at his practice - so kudos to them and forget what the other people have said in a negative manner. You all deserve so much more.
