Arrogant and Condescending
First appt he entered the room yelling and chastising, no introduction, no apology over the confusion, nothing but attitude. Arrogant. Condescending. Their office failed to schedule a follow-up for a year. Recent CT shows "progression" so they're finally scheduling with a different surgeon. Would absolutely never recommend Santiago. Wash U needs to make improvements so patients aren't without care, no treatment and no plans for any treatment whatsoever for a year.

Lies to you and LONG Wait Times
You will not see Dr. Santiago, you see his asst. The asst promised us that I would receive surgery based on CT and MRI. The myelogram was just to determine where surgery would be performed. Waited over 3 mos for appt. Insisted on myelogram to see where surgery would be performed. Myelogram got messed up by radiologist and caused neural impingement with permanent damage. Waited 3 more months for them to read myelogram - no surgery. Would not listen. Would not discuss the long list of symptoms. Would not discuss letters sent by self, spouse and friends indicating spinal pain and damage. Just refused to do anything at all. No offer of other treatment nothing. So in total waited 9 months to be told NO. Am currently on high doses of opiates - cannot take steroids or other pain meds due to reactions with no relief. They downright lied to us. Don't go. Please don't.

Dr. Santiago operated on my husband for a traumatic spinal cord injury from a fall. He is a very talented surgeon, who performed 8.5 hours operation to repair 8 vertebrae in his spine. He took the time to explain everything and answer all of our questions. We found him to be a very caring and down to earth human being. Our family fell in love with him and will use his skills in the future as needed. Thank you Dr. Santiago. Charles Smith family.

I met Dr. Santiago after a roll over car accident where I was thrown out of the vehicle. My neurosurgeon in Cape Girardeau said he could not help me and sent me to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St Louis by helicopter. I was lucky that Dr. Santiago was on call that night. My husband was told that C-1 (cervical spine) was shattered. I feel the surgery Dr. Santiago performed helped me avoid being paralyzed. Although I am not my pre-wreck height of 5’11”, I am able to function normally. Dr. Santiago is very knowledgeable. He has an awesome bedside manner and genuinely appears interested in his patient’s progress. I would not hesitate to recommend him to family or friends!

Arrogant; seems to treat patients like he is doing them a favor by seeing them. Clearly needs some bedside patient classes? I have been treated with more respect at a McDonald's drive up window!

Dr Santiago is a fantastic Doctor. His staff are extremely helpful. I feel very lucky that through chance and circumstance he became my Neurologist. Easy to talk to, he dealt well with a very irritable and confused patient. A++++ service and patience. Thank yoy

I absolutely love love love Dr. Santiago. He did a back surgery for me in 2012 after several surgeries and procedures by 2 other Dr's and I have felt amazing since until a new problem has arose. I would NEVER let another Dr. treat me for my back/neck injuries. Always extremely nice, very concerned, very attentive to me and my concerns. Probably one of the nicest, down to earth gentlemen I have ever met. I highly recommend him to any and everyone. I drive from Arkansas to see him now. 3 1/2 hours

I would not recommend this doctor to anyone. He is arrogant, disrespectful, and a complete JERK. This doctor totally blew off all of the problems I was having (5 bulging discs in my lower back) and did not care about any of my questions, concerns, or options for further treatment. I told him about some of the physical activities I engage in (kickboxing, mixed martial arts) and told me word for word that "Your fighting career is over, and you should find something else to do with your time."

Waited well over 2 hours for last appt. My husband continually felt like he was getting brushed off. Took us 6 months to get some real answers and at that point, we decided to get a second opinion. Couldn't continue to wait for another 2 months to schedule his surgery. Takes roughly 2 months to get appt and that is if your an exsisting patient.
