Dr. Shields is awesome! I have had ulnar pain, followed by weakness and numbness since an auto accident 28 years ago. After surgery, I have had decreased pain and my grip strength is coming back. Love his staff, too!

Dr. Phillip Shields is an amazing surgeon. I've had 4 surgeries with Dr. Shields beginning in 2015 and the last in 2019. I have a rare condition in which I have benign tumors on or in my spinal cord. I had a 2nd opinion at the Barrow Brain and Spine Clinic in Phoenix and they said he was a skilled surgeon. Dr. Shields is a man of few words. You do have to ask questions to get answers and he is not understanding of pain after the recovery period, but my GP takes care of me then. I highly recommend Dr. Philip Shields for any brain/spine surgery.

I got to the ER with fractured skull, blood around brain and ear problems after accident. In 26 hours at the ER, that guy could not find 2 minutes to see me, explain the situation or tell me what to do or not do after release. Horrendous.

Oh my goodness this Doc is horrible. Will never try to see him again. We saw him few weeks ago since there are few surgeon in town. There is no way he will perform surgery on me. . Will have to go out of town. Looks like the reviews are telling the truth.

Dr. Shields referred to my pituitary tumor as being 2.5mm. It is 9.4mm. He dismissed my headaches, hormonal abnormalities and a prior bleeding event saying that nothing is done for such a tumor until it is much larger and causes symptoms. (It is growing and has caused symptoms.) His eyes were severely blood-shot around the lids and whites of the eyes (may be nothing but it worried me). He put me down for a two-year follow-up. I will go elsewhere for help.

He performed back surgery on me & came out worse. When I expressed the concern that Iwas in pain, he didn't seem to take me seriously. Then he had a contrast MRI ordered & all he could say was "hm, it might be, maybe it's this" & then he went back to the original MRI. Said the only thing for the pain was a spinal stimulator to mask the pain - fusions are usually done 1st but too much scar tissue. Said we could get 2nd opinion so off to Mayo. Fusion successful there -

I had spinal surgery and Dr. Shields level of anger expressed with me when I questioned some of his recommendations was entirely unprofessional. Afterwards, his follow up was inconsistent, and while doing an in-office procedure, the friend that was with me witnessed his hands shaking violently the entire time. I will not trust him with my body again.

This guy ruined my boyfriends life. He scared him into back surgery by saying he wouldnt be able function. Well, it is ten years later and he is much worse off after surgery... still. We should have sued. Really.

Run from this man. He wanted to do a brain biopsy which is said to be NOT done. Luckily I escaped St Victims and went to UT Southwestern. Perhaps he doesn't read the MRI that clearly showed the glioma. I real like I was taken for a ride for an extra 2 nights....

Friendly and professional; did not rush the surgery date; tried other procedures to avoid surgery; eventually I needed surgery and he did an excellent job. recovery was short and 18 months later I still feel great. I'm back to all my normal activities; including martial arts.

Terrible! Doc missed something when he performed the surgery. Husband got blood clots which then meant he couldn't get second surgery recommended by Shields. Doc would not return calls for weeks and once in office the wait was more than two hours. Ended up at Mayo clinic to resolve what this Doc caused and didn't have time to follow up. He said he was busy taking care of his counterparts patients while they were put on medical leave. Seriously, don't go to this guy unless you want more probs

He did a micro diskectomy on me almost a year ago. Did a great job and although recovery wasn't the easiest I saw a noticeable difference immediately. He was always very knowledgable and helpful through the before and after stages and would definitely go back to him
