Dr. Richard Shinn, MD

I have been a patient of Dr. Shinn’s for over 6 years. He is the best Dr, in my opinion. He takes time to listen and explain things. I don’t ever feel rushed. The negative reviews about him baffle me as I have nothing negative to say about him. He is competent and one of the best Dr’s in Hilo.

My experiences with Dr. Shinn have been great. He's been my doctor at Hilo Kaiser since he started practicing there. I can't speak highly enough of him. I find him to be compassionate and caring. He listens and takes time to explain things. As of this writing I am aware that the Kaiser Clinic in Hilo only has 3 doctors and 2 PA's to cover the entire east side of this island, which makes it difficult to get an appointment with him or any of their medical staff. I think Kaiser needs to take a good look at how they are performing for the people of this island because their doctors and support staff are overloaded.

Been with Kaiser for over 50 years. He is the only bad Dr I have ever dealt with. Very arrogant person, confrontational and talks down to patients. Hilo is a small town, funny how we all had the same feeling about him, some had him when he was an ER Dr. at Hilo Hospital. Gave me bad advice and when I questioned him he told me I should go to school to be a Dr so I can diagnose myself. Another Dr. I had recommended the exact thing I was trying to talk to him about. There’s more I could write but I’ll refrain. I think he’s the worst type of Dr., he thinks he’s smarter then every patient, has been known to give bad advice and will get mad if the patient questions him. Beware!

The review from August 18, 2017 sounds exactly like my experience with Dr Shinn! I have many health issues that I am struggling with and Dr. Shinn seems to only care about himself and what is best for him. I have truly never felt more disrespected and dismissed from a doctor or for that matter another human being. Very condescending and unprofessional I too, will be filing a formal complaint about Dr, Shinn. Very disappointed in Kaiser for hiring such a narrow-minded, incompetent doctor.

I had an appointment today with Dr. Shinn, and I felt that he listened, took his time examining me, and thoroughly explained the procedure that he was about to perform. I feel so grateful that he is my doctor. I recommend him wholeheartedly. Thank you, Dr. Shinn

I have been with Kaiser for over 20 years and I have never felt more disrespected and disregarded then I have with this Dr. I am currently in the process of filing a formal complaint against him and feel that he is making decisions based upon his career rather then my best interests & over all well being which he has so stated. I will never recommend him and am disappointed in Kaiser for how they are handling their patients by putting everyone in a box, rather then treating us as individuals
