Dr. Whelan and his large team are top not h! each and everyone! I was introduced to each and everyone, their roles were explained, I had the opportunity to ask every single question I had clearly and they gave me as much time as I needed… I never felt rushed, I felt heard, comfortable, my needs considered…truly the most impressive medical team I have ever worked with… Edward Ng, the anesthesiologist working with Dr Richard Whelan was incredible, he stayed patient with my battery of questions and non typical queries, great guy! And every nurse I encountered kind, sweet, understanding and unruffled

The office stuff is way terrible than you can imagine. The office told me the prescription will be there before a week from my surgery. I waited for the day gets closer than go to the pharmacy. When I go the pharmacy, they don’t have my prescription at all and some of them got recall. When I call office, they don’t admit that they didn’t send out prescription yet. They just say they will send “now”. And they have so many excuses. No apologize at all. Plus, they blame you about it!!!! They says some of recall medicines are depends on the store which totally doesn’t make sense at all. Recall is recall for all things, can’t be only selected store. I should start from next day for preparing for my surgery, they haven’t send anything yet. Dr. Whelan is great doctor, warm, good heart but his office people are really terrible.

Terrible. They lied to me to get my appt AFTER I asked BEFORE I made the appt. IF I could get the procedure booked in June (this was mid May when I called). They said YES. Then kept me waiting 90 minutes for a required consult. Apparently anything they say isn't reliable. So they wasted my time, charged me for the consult (which I am now disputing) AND I'm running around trying to do this now very delayed - in JUNE because of these idiot/liars.

Dr. Whelan is a fantastic surgeon. He performed a difficult 6 hour surgery on me and prevented a resection which would have been a more difficult recuperation. He was available for all questions and truly an expert. Ice is now the only doctor I will use for my colonoscopy!

Dr. Richard Whelan is everything you want a doctor to be: attentive, innovative, thoughtful and skilled. He diagnosed a large lesion, walked us through all scenarios, performed a surgery when most hospitals would have opted for a resection. He’s also very approachable and easy to understand. We’re grateful to have been directed to him and his team. Thank you !

Saw Dr. Whelan for a second opinion. He was extremely thorough in his examination and very patient with detailed expiation. Dr. Whelan was highly professional. He saved me from proceeding with a very painful and uncessary surgery. Dr. Whelan belongs to a rare and and almost extinct genre of caring and knowledgeable physicians.

Four years after this man operated on me my life is still a mess. He left me with an abcess, infection and no chance of a normal life. My biggest complaint is that he never "heard " my complaints about symptoms post op. He is an egotistical surgical menace. Keep your family away.

I had the special blessing of working at Downstate Hospital with Dr. R. Whelan for over two years, & later as a patient. He is very conservative with how he conducts himself with his patients. First with diet, exercise, & further testing ( if needed.) He is easy to talk to, listens well to patients, & is excellent as a surgeon.

He performed only half a colonoscopy. When asked why, he responded that We ran out of tube. A joke? I do not know. Funny? Absolutely not. He never spoke to me again. He never sent results to me or my personal doctor. He never suggested alternative procedures. I had two procedures performed by Dr. Whelan many years ago, and he was a brilliant surgeon. I would never subject myself to his treatment again.

Knowledgeable, compassionate and accessible. His staff both in the office as well as the hospital are outstanding. While hospitalized, Dr Whelan visited me at least twice daily. In addition, his team checked on me two to three times daily. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing expert care .
