What Happened
I’ve been going to Dr. Varma for 4 years. She is an excellent physician. However, I do not know what has been going on recently. She is extremely overbooked, barely spends more than 5 min with follow ups which are very rushed, patients are standing out the door at an PAIN CLINIC at that, multiple patients are sitting in the waiting room with IVs, you are rushed through when it’s time for your procedure, and she’s seems overwhelmed. Her front desk staff seem stressed and impatient. I am not sure why things have changed, but if my last visit would’ve been my first visit, I would be completely turned off and would never return.

Best Pain Management Doctor Around
Dr. Varma and her staff are an incredibly kind and caring group. Very personable and accommodating. Dr. Varma knows her stuff for sure. She has helped me through so much, surgery pain, hernia pain, abdominal pain, back and neck pain. The office is busy at times and the wait may be a little longer, but this is because they are so caring, the practice tries to take care of their patients and if you have lived with pain, being able to be seen quickly is a must. She definitely improves lives!

Dr. Varma remains the best Pain management Doctor!
Dr. Varma truly cares for her patients. I’ve never had a Physician actually listen to my review concerns, set up a Telehealth appointment and make the necessary changes to restore my trust in her genuine respect for her patients health & wellbeing. There was not an edit option for my previous concerning review in November-December 2023. My issue was swiftly resolved. My trust in her & her hard working front & back of the practice staff, is fully restored. Dr. Varma has done what five other doctors & 25 years invested in the search for an effective treatment of my chronic painful condition of a discectomy fusion @C-3 to C-7 with a 6 inch plate, screws, bone graft, severe femoral narrowing & stenosis, bulging thoracic discs, & add in the L shoulder impingement and occasional grumpy demeanor. I simply cannot, will not, put my trust in any other doctor, than Dr. Ritu Varma & her beloved staff. She’s worth the wait! I look forward to a new location opening in April, 2023 in Woodbridge VA.

I have had two RFAs done with Dr. Varma. She is an incredible physician. I have recommended several friends to see her for care. She takes a conservative, but effective approach to alleviate pain.

Practice Has Deteriorated
In the early years of Dr. Varma taking over this practice, she was an exemplary physician. Each patient was afforded her attentive care, utmost empathy and complete dedication. Unfortunately, as the practice has grown significantly, Dr. Varma's time has been stretched excessively and to the detriment of the patients. While she remains a compassionate and skilled physician, appointments are extremely rushed (overbooked?), waits can be over an hour long, prescription refills from mail order companies are seldomly processed without incident and insurance claims do not seem to be filed in a timely manner. This can make a huge difference to patients when it comes to meeting deductibles and reaching out of pocket maximums with insurance companies. While I still truly value Dr. Varma, I'm sorry to say, I'm now in search of a new pain management physician.

A Kamath
I had an appointment with Dr Ritu Varma in Fairfax location but she wasn't there. I was told she comes there twice a month and Monday was when she would be there and hence I had booked it. Instead I saw her PA. I was totally surprised. Previous Friday her office staff called and confirmed my appointment with Dr Varma. If Dr Varma couldn't make it on Monday or wasn't available why wasn't I informed prior to my appointment. Also while I was in office I wasn't informed that she is not in the office either. Initially I thought that the PA is just there to ask initial questions and take my MRI/X-ray CD and when I asked when I will be seeing the doctor I was told she is in other location. I think it's very unprofessional on the doctors part and office staff to give wrong information to the patient. I called back after my visit and asked to talk to doctor but never heard back. I told since I didn't see the doctor I shouldn't be charged for the visit. I was not happy with the whole process and totally disappointed

Dr. Varma changed my quality of Life
About 18 months ago my back went completely out a couple of times and I was referred to Dr. Varma by TriCare. After checking out my MRIs she recommended Radiofrequency Ablation treatments. After a few treatments and follow-ups over the last year my back is doing 100% better and I am no longer fearful of it going out at anytime. I highly recommend Dr. Varma, she is terrific.

I want to bring her to Alabama with me!
I was referred to her by Tricare. We just moved from Germany and my lower back and neck were so bad it hurt to walk. In Germany I was just given Tramadol but I refuse to take more because I know it can be addictive. When she saw my MRIs she diagnosed me with degenerative disk disease and set me up for radioablation of my back and neck. I was so scared of the procedure and did not know her well yet but I was hurting so much! It was the best thing ever! She changed my quality of life! Thank you Dr Varma! She is so caring and will help! We now live in Alabama for 18 months and if I could I'd bring her with me! Go to her!

Back Pain Gone!
After an initial consultation, Dr. Varma had me in for an outpatient treatment of my back. It's been 6 weeks and I haven't had any back pain since the procedure! She informed me that the effects of the treatment will not last forever (but should for at least a year or two), but that I can schedule a repeat of the treatment when the pain comes back. I'm going again as soon as I start feeling the pain, no more living with the pain.

Highly Recommend
Dr. Varma helped me regain my old life back through the epidural treatments she provided. During intro and follow-up appointments she listened and helped me understand what was happening with my body and how the treatments would provide relief in the short and long term. Her staff was also always very polite and helpful, whether it was getting checked in or preparing for a procedure. I would highly recommend Dr. Varma to others experiencing lower back pain and/or disk issues.

Exceptional service
I will refer Dr. Varma to anyone else who needs relief due to severe back pain. I had pain for a previous injurie and visit different doctor, physical therapy, acupuncture and tried various pain relief options, and no pain relieved. When I first met Dr. Varma, she immediate knew my problem after a short fist visit and looking at my x-rays. I will say after all the procedures I received from Dr. Varma, just like she said to me, I will be back to at last 98% no pain, and its true. No more pain.

I would certainly refer my family and friends or anyone else who needs relief to Dr. Varma. When I first met Dr. Varma I was in severe pain and there was no relief in sight. Prior to my visit with her, I had been to physical therapy, acupuncture and tried various pain relief options and nothing would work. Dr. Varma assured me that she could help bring some relief to my lower back and she did. Dr. Varma was my pain relief angel and I'm forever grateful that I am no longer in pain as I was these past few years. I trust Dr. Varma and her team and I would recommend her to everyone I know. Thank you Dr. Varma for my holiday gift of no pain??

Pain management is a tricky business, I am sure. After a few failed attempts with doctors who would not listen or read the charts before diagnosing, I was overjoyed to find Dr. Varma. She listens, acknowledges my concerns, and sets the course for treatment. As we have proceeded through treatment, my quality of life has improved significantly. An absolute life-changer, Dr Varma is the doctor you are looking for. (I note also that Dr. Varma’s assistant (Jessica) is every bit as pleasant and professional as the doctor herself- a real bonus!)

You should see Dr. Varma if you really want to get better. I'm a nurse and I injured my back at work. I was seen by her for low back pain. Her treatment literally made my pain disappear. No surgery. I had moved and just came back to the area. I hunted her down and I'm seeing her again for my neck now. Without her help, I would have quit long time ago. She's so positive and always smiling. I'm blessed to have such a caring doctor!!
