Some of these other reviews mention Dr. Jay's lack of bed side manner. It is true he is very direct. However, he is extremely fast acting. His quick thinking when I was admitted to the hospital saved my life. The man is dry but a very, very good surgeon. If he had not acted quickly during my ostomy, I would have died. He also has a wonderful set of staff, all of whom have been very informative. I'm grateful to be alive and grateful for Dr. Jay

Gallbladder and appendix
He took his time and made me feel comfortable. Great bedside manor. Made sure I understood everything that was going to be done. He removed both and I was up and running in a few days! Highly recommend!

had gallbladder surgery, minimal pain
had outpatient gallbladder removal with "Dr. Jay" at surgery center in Frederick. Everything was smooth, his office staff was excellent. I just needed ibuprofen after the operation. he communicated everything very well and thorough from when I met him for a consultation, on the day of surgery and with detailed printed instructions after surgery. Highly recommend.

Poor Person skills
Came for consultation for surgery...appeared slick and fast-talking and only offered one way! scheduler totally disorganized and poor patient-relation skills. Staff had me coming back multiple times for paperwork. After they messed up on number of tests and disregard of hospital rules, reconsidered that this was not going to work (frightened!)

Poor bedside manner
I originally saw him in FHH where I was on day 4 of my stay for a gallbladder/bile duct issue. Mind you I was 17 days postpartum and my son had spent the first 8 days in the NICU...so by the time I met him he was the 3rd surgeon to talk to me and all other planned surgeries had fallen through. I had not eaten in 4 days. He is explaining to me that he wants to wait until Monday (Friday evening when we speak) and I tell him I refuse to wait that long. He tells me to check out against medical advice and go to John's Hopkins if I want care sooner than that. After literally telling him he just didn't want to do his job...he does the surgery. I see him in office for a drain removal and he is pleasant. But he decides to leave a really nasty remark about me as a patient in my chart. The care I received was a joke. So much so that nurses were telling me how horrible i was being treated. I was on the verge of a mental breakdown when I met him and he had zero compassion. Stay far away

Well that didn't hurt much!
Had infected cyst on left collar bone. He explained I needed it drained first and left to heal then I would come back in to remove the cyst. He put me at ease and talked me through the procedure as he performed it. I like that! My difficulty is with the use of anesthetic injections as they always burn. He took his time and I felt very little pain and it was very light if at all. Everything went extremely well both times. Recuperation was a snap and very little pain. The nursing staff is excellent and helpful and really care. A fine surgeon!
