I made the mistake of understanding that the person introduced as 'Doctor' was actually a medical student. I also asked about an issue regarding the use of gloves and then touching extraneous things that were not sterile because I am immunocompromised. Dr. Weinmann responded to my questions and comments with rage and vitriol. I was badly shaken and left her office in tears. It was a traumatic experience.

The worst experience ever...
Telehealth
When I saw her earlier in 2024, I had 3 doctors agreeing with the diagnosis and it was just a matter of medication dosage. (I needed to change doctors because of a move.) I went to the clinic excited to inform that my pain had reduced and I was doing much better. But she came in the room saying 'Hi this is Dr. Weinmann, I believe you will not like what I am going to say to you but I cannot support this treatment plan without getting you off of the meds and doing all the tests and imaging from zero”. She was never interested in hearing me out, but only cared that I was a transfer patient and she was not interested in the other doctors' evaluation. When I was desperate to not get off totally from the medicines that were helping me live a somewhat normal life, she told me to go back to my other doctor or I needed to follow her instructions. I wanted to believe that she was doing all of this for the right reason, but even on the second visit she just talked... she never listened.

Lazy and hides her bad attitude
She doesn’t listen and when you ask a follow up question, she takes it as if your were questioning her supreme judgment. She doesn’t get back to me on a timely basis.

Just like the reviewer from January 15th 2021, I have OCD & PTSD, and was fired as a patient by Dr. Weinmann. During my first 3 appointments (March-Sept 2019), she was understanding, reassuring, and supportive. In Jan. 2020, it was like an entirely different person walked into the room. She was dismissive, disinterested, and repeatedly tried to attribute my symptoms to my mental illness, despite my insistence otherwise. Her opinion about the severity of my connective tissue disease suddenly changed without explanation. I tried for weeks to get an explanation from her, but she wouldn't return my emails, call me, or allow me an appointment. When I spoke to a supervising doctor and shared my suspicion of diagnostic overshadowing, she fired me. I wish there was a way for anyone treated similarly by Dr. Weinmann to connect. I wouldn't be surprised if there are lots more out there.

My experience with Dr. Weinmann was positive at first. Over several appointments it became clear she had no respect for patient autonomy. I have AS & lupus and before retiring my rheumatologist had me on remicade. I have severe OCD & PTSD that is often triggered by medications or situations where I don't feel in control over what is happening to my body. I have been in therapy for a decade now treating my OCD & PTSD, but I still struggle. My previous rheumatologist had me keep my anti-anxiety medication on hand to take if needed. I have been on this medication for 7 years now & it is strictly overseen by my primary physician. Dr. Weinmann stated that she would not allow me to be treated until my PTSD was cured & I no longer needed anti-anxiety medication for panic attacks. Struggling with mental illness is hard enough, being shamed & denied treatment because of it is devastating. I tried to see a different doctor at Duke for a second opinion & she blocked me from being allowed to.

Uncommunicative. Won't answer any questions over the phone. She advises making an appointment to discuss questions, but her schedule fills up 3-4 months out. If any issues came up between my 3 appointments a year, I felt like reaching out to her or her office was pointless.

Dr. Sophia Weinmann was good in the beginning. My concerns were she didn’t listen and communication towards the end was bad.Her assistant who couldn’t properly research or answer simple questions with 40 years of experience.Dr. Weinmann wouldn’t provide a letter for my disability. Her assistant stated she doesn’t provide letters for any patients and didn’t explain why.Although there was clearly a misunderstanding it took a professional RA nurse to explain the policies and procedures within their department.I received the information well because the nurse took the time to explain to me.I wasn't informed when I was released.I love my AMAZING PCP doctor, Duke Pulmonary specialist and his Nurse Practitioner. Just because I experienced this encounter with Dr. Weinmann doesn’t mean Duke Clinic or hospital is bad.Duke still has a wonderful staff and I will continue my healthcare with them. What I’m truly looking forward to is seeing my new RA specialist at JOHNS HOPKINS. Dr. Weinmann is nice enough, but I’ve seen her several times and don’t feel like she listens to me at all. Every time I leave with an order for a $1k+ test that I’ve already had in the last couple of years. She was short with me when I asked a follow-up question via MyChart. I’ve seen much better rheumatologists. I’ve given her three stars because I feel most of this comes from inexperience. I’m only a few years older than her so this isn’t a matter of ageism. Some of my other specialists are around my age or younger. I came to her with specific concerns after my rheumatologist moved. I’ve been diagnosed (over and over) with the same connective tissue disorders, but she treated me as if I knew nothing about them. I tried to gave it several appointments just to see if it was beginning of job jitters, but nothing much has changed. I’ll look for someone new.

I've been seeing Dr. Weinmann for about 1 1/2 years. She's amazing! She listens, she cares and is very precise on her thoughts regarding treatments. She's very intuitive, quick of thought and action. Love her!!
