Highly Recommend Visiting Dr. Yao!
I recently had to find a new primary care physician, as my old one was no longer in my insurance network. I was hesitant to schedule with Dr. Yao because of the other reviews, but my visit with her a few days ago was wonderful! The staff was attentive, the wait was short, and the nurses were very thorough. Dr. Yao herself was very kind, listened to all of my concerns, and addressed each one with time and consideration. I left feeling like I had my health under control and that I had a clear vision of my next steps. Many of the reviews below have little to do with Dr. Yao, and more to do with her support and clerical staff. Don't let them discourage you from making an appointment with her! I look forward to having my health managed in her capable hands, and I highly recommend seeing her if you have any issues.

She cares about her patients. She is very thorough. Her recommendations for specialists is extremely good. We have 2 extremely good cancer outcomes based on the doctors to whom she recommended. Currently heading for a hernia repair, and am thrilled with her recommendation.

Unvaccinated NOT Allowed
S. Yao has been my primary care doctor for almost 10 years. I was in a car accident a few days ago and hospital recommended I follow up with GP. She refused to see me because I'm not vaccinated! I had original Wuhan variant in December 2020. I can't have any vaccinations and haven't since the 1970s. With all the information we know now about the covid shots, I really question her abilities to use the science and data to care for any patient.

Dr. Yao is TERRIBLY unresponsive to my requests and my insurance company's requests for information regarding an MRI I need. The situation has been going on for 4 months without her response. First she said I didn't need an MRI, just an x-ray and bone density scan. After those, she then decided I needed the MRI after all but does not follow through to allow it to happen. I cannot recommend her.

I’m outraged. I have been a patient with Dr. Yao for many years at IMS. She is a fine doctor. However the response (lack there of) from staff makes it impossible to communicate and get what one needs. Case in point: Dr. Yao advised that I start a new prescription. IMS was to call it in to my pharmacy same day as my appt. Never done. When I called IMS I was appropriately transferred to Dr. Assistant. Phone rang and rang, no vm available. Called main number again. And again. And again. And again. Spoke to same staff member each of the 4-5 times. I explained the problem each time. She insisted on this transferring process even though I told her there is no way for me to leave message. she would not take my message directly. I have faced this problem once before with this office and I was forced to appear in person to obtain a response. I won’t do so again. If I can possibly leave IMS for another primary care physician I will do so ASAP.

My husband and I have been with her for about 7-8 years. She was available to us once in the middle of the night when my husband was having a major pain issue, she returned our call promptly and helped us to resolve his issue.

I have used her for about 4 yrs. she started complaining to me this last year about the fact that I called too many times in one situation and only one and then she kind of disregards me because I am not run-of-the-mill patient I don’t believe in medications overall and that irks her. I always feel like she doesn’t give me enough time I have to be in and out of there within 10 to 15 minutes I always feel rushed and feel like she just wants me out as quickly as possible. she never asks me is there anything else that you need to know today?

Not a pleasant experience. The office staff is unprofessional, cold, and not well trained. They misspelled my name on the first appointment and after repeatedly trying to get it changed never did change. The only way I was able to get my prescriptions was that they knew me. Too many incidents to recount of poor follow through, not listening to me. I left the practice I gave them 2 1/2 years too make sure I wasn't over reacting. Had one good referral throughout my process there. Cathedral City, CA

I was happy with the office until they wasted my time and patience proving that I was insured. The office billed me twice at 150.00 making me jump through unnecessary hoops to prove they were wrong. The woman on the phone clearly was a zombie at best when it came to customer service. I work on the phone for a living and one can always recognize a bad display of representing the company you work for simply by your tone.
