Dr. Stephen Ferber, MD

Was in therapy with Dr. Ferber during his residency in the late 2010s, and he is still one of the best mental health providers I've ever seen (and I've had a few therapists over the years). He was empathetic and insightful, and had just the right approach to help me identify thought and behavioral patterns that weren't serving me, and to explore ways to change them without making me feel pathologized. He was incredibly supportive during a months-long mental health crisis, and I will always be grateful for my sessions with him and all his help. Highly recommend if you want a doctor who truly listens and understands you to provide the right insights and medication.

I was a patient of Dr. Ferber's during his residency, and he did an exceptional job of working with me when I had little understanding of my mental health and the sources of my distress. He thoroughly embodied unconditional positive regard and showed consistent awareness, control, and correction of cross-transferences. He proactively apologized if he felt uncertain about about any component of our interactions, embodying an emotionally mature connection. As someone who has had over 10 years of therapy in 4 modalities--and worked with many therapists , some briefly and some long-term, I am confident when I say that he is a gifted professional. Additionally, his ability to accept me as a person at the time, has gone unmatched by any therapist I worked with before or since.

After one 15 minute visit, this man diagnosed me with Borderline Personality Disorder. Which I do not have. All psych providers other than him agree on a different dx and also say you really can't in good faith diagnose anyone with a personality disorder in one visit. Now I can't access care I need because he put BPD in my medical record. Irresponsible and negilgent.
