Biography: Dr. Brubaker graduated from Elizabethtown College in 1970 and went on to study medicine in Philadelphia at PCOM, graduating in 1974. He did post-graduate training in Pathology, immunology, immunopathology, immunohematology, coagulation and Blood Banking at the University of Pittsburgh Health Science Center and Central Blood Bank of Pittsburgh. His research in while in post graduate training, discovered T lymphocytes in lymphoid tissue and labeled cancer of the lymphoid immune system with T and B lymphocytes, which was not done before. After training, he was Assistant Professor of Pathology at Oklahoma Health Science Center and Director of laboratories for hematology, coagulation, transfusions, and compatibility testing for organ and bone marrow transplantation at University Hospital, VA, and Childrens Hospitals. He was also medical director for Oklahoma Blood Institute. While at the University of Oklahoma, he discovered a new disease never previously described that he called Transfusion Associated Graft versus Host Disease. He left Oklahoma and became Assistant Professor at UCLA and worked at Harbor UCLA Medical Center in Transfusion Medicine and his research. After leaving LA, he became the CEO and Medical Director for Inland Northwest Blood Center in Spokane Washington and Associate Professor of Pharmacology at Washington State University. He came back to California and was the Medical Director of the Central California Blood Center and Tissue Bank. He was also Clinical Assistant Professor at UCSF. He then wanted to obtain additional training in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Oncology, but was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer. He was unable to continue with his dream of internal medicine, hematology and oncology, and as a result started doing general medicine and medical legal medicine in workers compensation and personal injury. He incorporated pain management in his practice, detoxing patients off of high doses of narcotics and providing medical cannabis recommendations for patients with chronic pain. He has been doing non-narcotic pain management, personal injury, and workers compensation medical legal medicine since 2000.
