He earned his M.D. at the USC School of Medicine in Columbia and Greenville, SC, and then trained in surgery at East Tennessee State University. He enjoys all areas of surgery. He then completed his internship and residency from the Medical College of Georgia in general surgery. Dr. Pettiford then followed his residency and completed his fellowship in surgical critical care from The Medical Center of Central Georgia.
